What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

The blue thing is the steering rod between the two hubs - will be painted when I get round to it Cheers

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Finished painting the axles, springs and chassis, assembled the bits. Went to the engine shop and put the engine back in. Engine has had some repairs ie main bearings, hone and new rings. Reconditioned head, valves lapped, new valve guides - 2 new exhaust valves, fixed up the oil pump, new water...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Welcome to the forum...when I joined up not so long ago I was soon told to refer to my FJ40 as a 40 - not a FJ so as not to confused with the FJ Cruiser Cheers

Who has galvanized their frame? - Thread masking advice?

I did my chassis a few months ago, the external threads were taped by the galvanises, the internal threads just got galvanised and then I ran the tap through the threads without drilling them first - was quite easy, juse take it slow. Then I painted my chassis

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Painted the chassis and springs, test fitted the springs. Will paint and fit the axles next and then it will be a rolling body, and finally put the reconditioned engine back in

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Pulled the 4 sets of leaf springs apart, they were in quite a mess. Used a twisted knot brush on my angle grinder which worked really well, spent about an hour each spring sets cleaning off the gunge. Have painted one set with CRC Black Galv then I will grease each leaf and re-assemble, then top...

    Painting springs

I have my 40 in a 1000 bits and now starting the rebuild. I want to tidy up the spings by removing the rusty look and coating them with a durable paint. One of the spring refurbish companies I spoke to said they use a basic water based paint to coat the springs which I guess would last 5...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Making good progress with my 40 restoration, the engine work is finished, and the engine ready to be picked up. Wasn't as bad as first thought - the low compression was caused by the oil rings being gummed up. So, we have replaced the main bearings, cylinder hone and new rings, new water pump...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Have been working on getting the chassis ready for galvanising, nearly there and then I noticed the front right spring hanger was not aligned with the rear front spring hanger - so, will require a bit of repair and alignment before its galvanised. It explains why it handled a bit strangely on...

    FJ40 Suspension Geometry

That's great advice thanks, the plan is to re-build from the ground up and replace where necessary, including making the springs look pretty again, new tie rod ends, galv the chassis, etc. The previous owner put the springs on and I'm not sure how mechanically minded he was, the shoulder bolt...

    FJ40 Suspension Geometry

Agreed, think I should move the top of the shackle back to give an angle of about 30 degrees and take a couple of leafs out of the spring....bit of experimentation. Will be taking the springs apart anyway to give them a clean up and a paint.

    FJ40 Suspension Geometry

Being quite new here, I have looked around looking for details on the suspension geometry for my front springs. I have seen a few posts but nothing really conclusive. I bought the 40 about 9 months ago and now starting to pull it apart and re-building the vehicle. When I look at other threads...
