I did my chassis a few months ago, the external threads were taped by the galvanises, the internal threads just got galvanised and then I ran the tap through the threads without drilling them first - was quite easy, juse take it slow. Then I painted my chassis

Pulled the 4 sets of leaf springs apart, they were in quite a mess. Used a twisted knot brush on my angle grinder which worked really well, spent about an hour each spring sets cleaning off the gunge. Have painted one set with CRC Black Galv then I will grease each leaf and re-assemble, then top...

I have my 40 in a 1000 bits and now starting the rebuild. I want to tidy up the spings by removing the rusty look and coating them with a durable paint. One of the spring refurbish companies I spoke to said they use a basic water based paint to coat the springs which I guess would last 5...

Making good progress with my 40 restoration, the engine work is finished, and the engine ready to be picked up. Wasn't as bad as first thought - the low compression was caused by the oil rings being gummed up. So, we have replaced the main bearings, cylinder hone and new rings, new water pump...

Have been working on getting the chassis ready for galvanising, nearly there and then I noticed the front right spring hanger was not aligned with the rear front spring hanger - so, will require a bit of repair and alignment before its galvanised. It explains why it handled a bit strangely on...

That's great advice thanks, the plan is to re-build from the ground up and replace where necessary, including making the springs look pretty again, new tie rod ends, galv the chassis, etc. The previous owner put the springs on and I'm not sure how mechanically minded he was, the shoulder bolt...

Agreed, think I should move the top of the shackle back to give an angle of about 30 degrees and take a couple of leafs out of the spring....bit of experimentation. Will be taking the springs apart anyway to give them a clean up and a paint.
