    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

All the parts that are listed, shipping, machining and all the fluids to get it running cost me around $6500.00. The Machine shop would only take the job if I did all the leg work on the parts. They would tell me what sizes I needed but it was up to me to obtain them and get them shipped to me...

12H-T sits low after body lift

I did the same thing as you. I ended up cutting and reshaping the bottom section of the fan shroud. Welded in some splices. Worked great. No issues after that.

12HT / 2H Oil Pressure Relief Valve Removal Tool

A Toyota mechanic told me anything over 90psi is hard on the seals. My engine is freshly rebuilt and still a bit tight. I just wanted to make sure I didn't harm anything especially when it gets below freezing. Now at cold start up it's 75PSI and doesn't go above 85PSI. Within a couple minutes...

12HT / 2H Oil Pressure Relief Valve Removal Tool

On cold start up it went to ~80PSI and if I blip the throttle or drive right away it would see easily 90+PSI. After 10-15 min of driving it goes within spec. With the power steering pump right beside the access port, you need something small/short to wiggle your way around it.

12HT / 2H Oil Pressure Relief Valve Removal Tool

Thought you guys may be interested in what I came up with. I've been dealing with high oil pressure and I changed my valve assembly out to new. As you may be aware, the valve is a little tricky to get out. Some people say to remove the spring, put the cap back on and blip the starter but that...

DIY Engine Temp Sensor/Gauge for 12HT (or any engine really)

I've been struggling for years on how and where to install a secondary Engine Temp Sensor/Gauge on my 12HT. We all know that the stock Toyota Landcruiser Temp gauge is a little flakey. Many people suggested to tap/splice into the top hose but I was very hesitant to do so since it's not really at...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Hello, The glow screens were easy to re-wire. I installed a high quality Push Button Switch on the left side of my dash. I wired (hacked into) the old 2H/24V glow plug relay and rewired the "hotside" of the relay to the glow screen. The only hard part on this is finding which wires are the...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Glad you like my thread. I was in the same dilemma. With 390KM's of wear, I think your bores will be out of round and in-between sizes where even if you installed stock size pistons, I'm not sure how long it will last before you will get blowby again. Your thrust end play will be out of...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Thank you! The engine had 320,000Km's on it and if it was for the head gasket issue I think it would have survived another 100,000KM's with no issues. It was still making good power and not smoking. Since it was all apart and I planned to keep it for a while I decided to just spend to money and...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Part Four I won’t lie, the start up was nerve racking and I felt a little ill. I think my biggest concerns was if it was timed right. Took a bit a purge the injection system. We cranked it a bit to get the oil pressure up... then finally tried to start it. It immediately sprung to life! Now...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Part Three I got the engine back home. I painted the block + some parts. Cleaned and slowly and methodically installed all the remaining parts. I Installed new Water pump, Thermostat and had the injectors rebuilt. I left the Turbo and Injection Pump alone. They seemed to be okay + I can deal...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Part Two: As it turns out, I had a very small head gasket leak between the water jacket passage and the cyl No 1. I discussed things with my Land Cruiser friends and they all said, “well, since you gone this far…. may as well get it machined and install new parts.” The hard part was finding a...

    My 12HT Rebuild Journey...

Disclaimer… I’m not a certified mechanic but I’m fairly “handy”, have a lot of tools and I have rebuilt a few 4cyl gas engines before…. Background, I purchased this 12HT back in 2014 and swapped it into my Hj60. The engine came from a 1988 JDM HJ61 and had approximately 270,000KM’s on it when I...
