Yep. it's not all that durable like a bedliner (did that once to a '78 FJ40 back int eh day and loved it), but the old girl was looking rather freakish with multiple patches of primer, missing parts, etc. So it's an easy, relatively cheap, and removable top coat....until I can get a real paint...
Re-dipped the truck. Got about 2 years out of the rattle can job I did last time - also bought a cover to hopefully get a few more years out of this job. Used a real gun instead of the cans...although I had to do it in stages, so the color wasn't a perfect match everywhere, but it looks better...
Took family camping near Crisfield MD. CRAZY heat and giant insects were the fuel for a mutiny....only lasted one night. Yes that is a box fan in the picture...roughing it. Looking forward to cooler weather for sure.
Thanks for the ideas and optimism. Outer frame is better - but bubbly as well. I reckon a new frame will be in order one of the se days - perhaps i can find a good welder nearby who can tackle the really bad spots for a some extra life. I like going in all doom and gloom - then climb my way...
From those who have been there....found out my rusty frame was worse off than originally thought (hoped). 188k motor, 5-speed, 1 year old OME, new tires, rebuilt starter, alternator, dizzy, carb, , new water pump, etc. - desmogged, runs pretty good (burns a little oil) good compression.
I...
We towed a good sized pop-up for a few years when we lived in Seattle. I had a 5-speed in the '85 FJ60. It was slow going but manageable. Make sure you have electric brakes on the trailer! Also, I had to do a spring-over on the trailer to get it up higher for more level towing. It was the...
When we first purchased our '85 FJ60 (when it was clean and rust-free) - I desmogged it and Jim C rebuilt the carb and curved the dizzy. We (wife and two small kids) camped in Washington state for a few years pulling a good-sized pop-up. It had electric brakes which was a must I think - of...
Not so much my Fj60, but was able to check out my brother in law's workshop at ACC in Atlanta while visiting family in the area....all I can saw is WOW! Super nice people and a shop that's is awesome. I drooled over many 40s and 60s there. Talk about kid in a candy store. Wish we had...
Picked up a big ole bird cage so my daughter could resuce a Moluccan Cockatoo....like we need any more pets in the house. Then added some sound proofing stuff to the back end. Got the rear quarter panels, axle area, and wheel wells. Next up is the front seat area and tranny hump...noisy...but...
Two Buck - For what it's worth - I am about to venture down this road on my conversion (I have the kit from George, just haven't purchased the pump yet)...and after reading this thread I am more prepared and know what to look out for. I realize that doesn't help you much or get your truck back...
x2 on Procar Elite (older version, non "Lumbar" I think). I like 'em. Would do it again. Sorry - no pic handy, but they look like FJ60Cam's - except that I stained them dark brown...
