Thanks for the reply. I know. I have removed and disassembled the gear box each time.

You can't replace that seal from the outside, it installed from the inside after full disassembly.

I'm located in southern new Hampshire and looking for a shop to repair some rust below the rear windows of my 1991 HDJ81. Hoping someone has some recommendations for a reputable shop who could take on this work. Picture from a recent trip cause...

Did you use a belt tension gauge to set the correct belt tension? I have a cheap Krikit gauge that works well enough, under $20 when I bought it. Seems they've gone up in price: Amazon.com: Gates 91107 Krikit V-Belt Tension Gauge, Black ...

Hi everyone! I purchased a new-to-me 80 Series LC in late 2024. Slowly trying to restore it, and discovered this forum by accident, and fell in love with the welcome and open attitude of everyone (getting rarer in today's environment). So wanted...

You mean like this? :) Adding a second plate to the control arm mounts then welding that plate to the axle housing AND to the original plate is something that should be done. I have seen folks weld up a second plate just to the control arm...

Here you go.I really miss the Van, it was a 2005 E150 that I purchased form the original owner with less then 40k mi. I scored a 2007 F350 4x4 rolling chassis less the Eng.& Tran. and used the axles & suspension for the 4x4 conversion. The...

What he linked is copper-nickel alloy, which is perfectly acceptable and excellent to work with. Straight copper is definitely not recommended.

They are break-away bolts. They are meant to shear in case of an accident so the intermediate shaft doesn't become a spear into someone's throat!

They use the same bolts on the universal at the steering box. The splines confuse me as well. It seems like Toyota does everything for a reason... Does anyone know or have a theory why they used these bolts with splines in these locations?

I don't think there is a separate nut. AFAIR, joint that clamps the steering shaft has threads.

Thanks guys, I found the place where the bolt came from. Definitely no nut lying around the footwell. The splines on the bolt are confusing (to me any way). I will get the bolt back in tomorrow morning when there is better light. Thanks again...

There are no nuts. The yokes are threaded so the bolt jams against the steering shaft.

Yes, it is part of the steering column. Don't drive your vehicle until it is replaced.

I can sell you a new in box fuel pump that I ended up not needing. I have the 12.5 gal tank and found the provided pump was fine with the following mods. The LRA wiring diagram does not use a relay for the pump their is far to much voltage drop...

I'd definitely upgrade the pump (I have an upgraded pump sitting on the shelf waiting for the original Facet pump to die). I wouldn't bother with the charcoal canister if yours is in good condition. The reason to preventatively replace is just...

I bought the tank locally off someone who had a change of plan. Called LRA and they gave me the upgraded transfer pump (P4070) They told me it pumps twice as fast and is quieter. Some other threads on mud also suggest the same thing. It's $60 so...
