What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

You've caught me out now 😅 All work was done with my mechanic friend and he's the real wizard. I'll ask him how it was done, but the gist of it is the plug for the dial is present on all 80 series behind the filler plate as well as the relays behind the front passenger kick panel (for an...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Installed a Harrop E-Locker in the front axle a few weeks back (front drive flanges were worn out, bit of backlash from diff center, wheel bearings needed doing, etc) but only just recieved the factory locker dial. It was wired into the factoy harness so the dash light comes on and the transfer...

For Sale  FZJ80 High Pressure Power Steering Hose

Hi all, Last year I made a big order from Wits End and had a new power steering hose combined to save on shipping. The 80 got a nice rebuild however it turns out the PS hose was for a left-hand drive vehicle and is of no use to me in Australia. Its still in its brand new bag and I'm listing it...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

This is what I was doing: went barramundi fishing in the Victoria River on a quick trip across the NT border. Stopped in Darwin for territory day; absolute mayhem.

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Not mine but saw this contraption in the caravan park the other day: its a chopped 80, but with a slide on camper. If you thought fuel consumption couldn't get any worse...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Tourism... for now. Spent last dry season at the Bungle Bungles, after 500 laps I won't need to go back there any time soon. The Gibb River is on my 'to-do' when heading back down south again. Currently at Lake Argyle, with a 4x4 and a boat lifes good. You see a lot of 80 series up here, best...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Highlights reel of the summer flying season in Esperance western australia, lots of incredible beaches and 4x4 with the 80 series: Now moving into a new season at the top end of western australia for the 'dry season' and looking to do a lot more offroading.

    Bypass knock sensor

I ended up gluing the old plug back together then soldering a bit of wire to it, then soldering to what was left on the harness end and plugging it back in. CEL gone, its getting a signal from the #1 knock sensor now. Temp fix will have to do until the new plug arrives and I can get someone with...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Working a season in Esperance flying choppers, probably the best coastline in WA! Have been doing a lot of beach 4x4 and camping on days off. The new transmission cooler hose was rubbing on the AC pulley and blew while the engine was hot, which has caused a cascade of issues since. Working...

    Bypass knock sensor

Thanks Malleus; it's an oddball because the nameplate says 1995 80 series, however it lacks OBD and instead has the old style diagnostics plug that requires the jumper wire to read the codes. I believe this is an Australia production quirk. With the old style, code 52 is a missing signal with KS...

    Bypass knock sensor

Hi guys, tried the search but could only find "replace KS or plug". 1995 1FZ-FE. I'm getting code 52, tried to unplug the front sensor and it crumbled in my fingers. I have a new plug on express post however I need the 80 driving in a few days time to pick up a boat 5 hours away. How do I...

    Steering gear box rebuild

This is an incredible write up, mine's weeping (not leaking as the PS fluid has remained mostly steady for months) and I had toyed with the idea of rebuilding the steering box myself... but after reading this you've well and truly scared me off even trying! Looks way above my head. Good stuff in...

    Help Identifying a Coolant Hose

Wits end has all the bits you need, and this handy diagram: Your setup is on the left, I assume your leak is at the T labelled part B. Either that, or the hoses either side of it. If you're going to do them all, this is the kit: 80 Series 1FZ Curved Heater Hose Kit -...

    Timing mishap

There might be more too it but the spark plug page of my Haynes Repair manual points to hot plugs, which is a fairly unique symptom with the white blistering.
