1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

I think I finally find the correct light!

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

I have a non-Toyota manual and in the electrical diagram, it also shows the courtesy light and respective switch. So, multiple things I've learned....The "Vader" light I have is not the original one, and most likely not even the correct Toyota one (from looking at pics of what others have...

Yes, there is a hole, here's a pic of that hole. Is this the original location of the Vader light?

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

Ah, that makes sense. Here are some pics of my rig with the location of where the "Vader" light was when I bought the rig, plus the original mounting hole under the dash.

Yes, there is a factory hole in that location. So in some years the light was mounted in that location? If so, it seems to be in a very strange location to be useful.

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

Oh, and no, mine isn't a soft top model. Will post a picture of it here in just a bit. It's certainly possible the light wasn't stock and a PO added it, which is why I'm trying to find out if the original location in certain years is where mine was mounted.

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

Yea, I've seen that location for the light as well in early 70's FJ40's, however there is no existing hole for the light to the right of the glove box. Mine is to the left above the rest of the knobs. Will post a picture here in a bit.

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

Thanks for all of the information, it's very informative. I did see a few other pics of 40's that had the Courtesy Light in the same place as the pic you posted, to the RIGHT of the glove box, however on my 66', there is no hole in that location to mount it. Will post a pic of the location of...

1966 Courtesy/Map "Darth Vader" light and switch location question.

For those of you that have the older 40's that came with the Courtesy or "Darth Vader" light, I'm trying to figure out where the original location of the light was, and also the switch. When I bought my 66 a few years back, the light was mounted towards the top of the dash, however the + wire...

    1966 FJ40 gas pedal help

Thanks for the reply. Mine is the "Figure B, 90 degree version". From crawling under my 40 and looking at the engine side of the firewall, I can't see anything as to where the rod linkage would mount, which is why I was hoping for a pic. Will call Specter tomorrow and see what they do indeed...

    1966 FJ40 gas pedal help

Thanks, however Specter doesn't have the parts I believe I need, as most say "discontinued". I really need some close up pics so I can see exactly how everything connects. There is a thru wall grommet which on my 40 has nothing going thru it, however there is supposed to be some type of metal...

    1966 FJ40 gas pedal help

I have a 1966 FJ40 I bought a few years ago (not running) and STILL working on getting her up and running. One of the many things needed is to get the gas pedal installed correctly. What came with it was modified and not original. Hoping that someone wouldn't mind posting some close up...
