The noise is definitely coming from the top of the motor, its worst when I first start it up and is does get louder as rpm increases. Also plenty of oil, no fluctuation of oil pressure. Mechanic i've used for years to service my work fleet told me this. I've never had any issues with his work...

Recently purchased a 94 fzj80 w/125k mi. I drove it 6-7k mi. with no problems. All of a sudden I hear a loud tapping/clapping noise coming from the head. Told I need valve adjustment and possibly new hydraulic lifters. Is this common or did I buy a lemon?

Bought a 94 fj80 in Nov. took it on a couple trips, drove it @ 6k mi. One morning it starts making a loud tapping/clapping noise. Told it needs a valve adjustment and possibly new hydraulic lifters. Is this common or did I buy a lemon?
