Working on quite a few things here, but at the moment I’m replacing several crumbling and suspect connectors. One of which it the idle air control connector. I cut it off and then was going to match up the wire colors to the positions on the new...
If you pull the engine, do not cheap out on an engine hoist or engine stand. You will regret it if you do! I went the HF route for my hoist, went through two of them before finalizing my rebuild. Dumb. :bang:
oh hell yeah, pull the whole engine with the ECU harness pulled through the firewall after disconnecting it from the ECU. I'd move the a/c compressor and lay it on the pass fender well. If you can pull the engine/tranny/tcase combo as one...
Zuk is the go-to person but he no longer accepts shipping. Only in person. He's been doing it for decades so I understand that he is probably tired of the post office.
Thanks for your support, fellows. I do a lot of my own work, but less and less as I'm pushing 70 - the spirit is wiling, but the flesh is increasingly weak. Then again, I just finished installing a Cruiser Company rear bar and swingouts and a...
Stay away from the mass backed carpet. My still smells of tar 4 years after I ordered it. Installed it a year ago. I have to leave the windows open so it does not smell like a roofing contractor's truck.
I had a 2-1/2" OME setup, bit of a harsh ride though. I am now on a 3.5" Dobinsons lift and 35s with the following:
C97-144VT front coils - 3.5"
C97-145VT rear coils - 3.5"
MRA45-A912 front 4" length shocks for additional travel
MRA59-A687 rear...
"The Window Rocket replaces the power window relay. Using a 40 amp relay to pass the necessary current, then boosting the voltage several volts with a special module ensuring the window motors get the 14 volts they were designed to run on."

I don't know what it is with the some of the online depots that send Toyota parts. I had to order 8 steel wheels and return 4 for my 80. Even had them shipped to the Toyota dealer. Some would come in boxed in good condition, and the other had...
"The bolt was not put back on at all. He removed it by touching it."
That's bad on whomever forgot to tighten the crank bolt initially, but worse that others totally missed it.
Whatever money was spent chasing that rabbit in the past should...
Thanks so much for all the help from everyone who commented on this thread and for tagging Zach. He is a rockstar. Words can not convey just how much I appreciate and how excited I am that soon I’ll have my truck back on the road.
The bolt was...
To answer the engine pulling question: If you are replacing the head gasket, yes. Don't even think about it, just do it. Pull engine and transmission together. I am so glad I did.
Okay, the while you are in there stuff will add up quickly. There...
There is one reason (IMHO) to pull the engine to resolve oil leaks: a leaking upper pan seal. Everything else can be fixed, without pulling the engine. While it may be possible to pull the engine without the transmission and transfer case, if...
I was quickly reminded of why you should always look over the work you just did when a new problem arises
Daughter who dailies the hdj81 says dad, I'm getting a vibration above 65 on the highway, its new.
I start going through scenarios...
Have a pretty good leak in the power steering vane pump (it sat for over 4 years, don't think that helped) so ordered a new replacement from an online Toyota dealer. Received it exactly as shown. Who ever "packaged" it needs to have a rectal...
Where not talking about Jeeps here 😜 !!
All I’m saying is a 80 axle housing definitely benefits from a trussing if you run big tires and run hard trails.
I have to disagree!!
There are plenty of bent 80 axle housing out there.
And before I did my truss my front differential bolts would come loose ( common 80 issue ) almost every run causing the diff to leak.
It’s never happened again after...
So after doing some more research, my current plan is to copy @Broski and use 2x4 rectangular tubing and cut it down into a truss.
Then I'll make 2pc lower knuckle gussets out of plate.
