I just cleaned it out to the point where it was clear and drained from the block and radiator. I refilled with regular mixture after that. The FSM isn't particularly specific on this point: 'Drain coolant' and 'Refill with engine coolant'.
A note on step 7 of the install: you should seal the tensioner pulley pivot bolt threads.; if you don't you get an oil leak. FSM specifies adhesive including blue loctite 242. The updated video(engine out of truck) doesn't have this step but the old video(part 2) did.
Should the water pump mounting surface be completely flat? I'm assuming yes based on other photos and discussion but I figured it wouldn't hurt to triple check before removing material on the mating surface. Photo attached of the surface of mine. It has a hardened raised lip that I'm...
My variation : using a block with a hole drilled such that the cheater pipe on the breaker bar for the crankshaft pulley holder could be held in place with my foot.
I oriented the breaker bar on the pulley tool such that it was angled toward the DS. I could then slide the wooden block over...
This photo is from a lunch parking spot in one of the national parks of Tanzania ( was fortunate enough to be there last week for a long postponed trip). There were over a hundred cruisers of the safari/game-drive type. on the way through the town nearest the park entrance, it felt like I saw...
Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of that step. Based on my wording from 2018 (below), what I think I did was to clamp between these two points in photo below with the driving end at the bottom.
'Another technique to try for getting LBJ to pop: Use a C-clamp to squeeze between the top...
Update:
Yes the backup key was a master key. My problem was a mildly flat battery! It would light up normally but didn't quite have enough juice for normal start up. I put the battery on the charger for 14 hours and voila started with both backup keys.
Thank you very much for the expert...
Would ECU recognize generic, never-associated master as a master? I've never had an issue with starting the car with the lost key. My assumption at the moment is that I did not check that this master worked when I got the vehicle and the seller (dealer in TX) threw the keys in with the sale...
I've committed the major mistake of losing my LC key and the ECU isn't recognizing my backup master key.
Are there any locksmiths in eastern MA area that anyone would recommend for doing the work for a 1998 LC? The alternative is local dealer of course but wanted to check alternatives before...
That's the puzzling part, I thought I tested the master when I bought the truck four years ago but its acting like the master is unknown to the ECU which is a very unhappy and expensive scenario.
I lost the primary key I use with the LC. turning house upside down for it but I've had truck in garage for a couple of weeks working on it.
Situation:
1) I have an original master as a spare key in addition to a valet key.
2) I checked that key is a master by inserting it and the flashing...
Update for the below: That is probably a seam as geometry is wrong for a saw cut and that's not where I cut through the shell. I am moving on to replacing the arm because the new bushing can be pressed out pretty easily by hand which seems way too loose. My guess is I screwed up by not...
The protector over the gas tank is not structural. There are threads on it.
pictures would help for folks on the forum to evaluate. The definition of 'a lot of rust' vary widely. :)
Another technique to try for getting LBJ to pop: Use a C-clamp to squeeze between the top of the LBJ and the bottom of the knuckle. My reasoning was that all you are trying to do is get the static friction/corrosion to release so squeezing a fraction was just as good as pushing from bottom and...
