It’s tough, knowing full well what the 3rd world rigs come with, but still wanting that extra length of the 43. Just has some odd appeal to it that’s hard to avoid. I remember looking at 43s on Tucarro maybe a decade ago. Bit the bullet about 18...
Print #7 is a success! Seems to hold air pressure (very un-scientific "plug holes and blow into it" method), but good enough to test drill/tap etc. I'm still not satisfied with the overhang surface quality and the top of it is a bit rough too...
I did mine on the first of many drives to TX for the Lone Star Roundup in 2005. Somewhere between Tucson and Las Cruces. Traveling in a soft top 40, the canvas acted like a bellows and pulled ALL the fumes into the cab!😱 Well, through Pirate 4x4...
Took it grocery getting! Felt good, first real drive in 6 months. Both axles rebuilt, new brakes plumbed and new suspension. Rode nice! Also found a few more items to add to the fix it list.
I can speak to the fuel injection….spectacular!!… I wanted to go 5 speed but a discussion from @wngrog convinced me to get 2 front 3.70 geared differentials and make that swap. My FJ40 has a completely new attraction. I am probably 20% down in...
Working smart is always the solution. Using leverage and well placed blocks of wood. The largest true ‘lift’ is probably moving the springs from the front porch to under the rig, and carting off the old springs. Everything else can be aided by...
Out with the old, faded and cracked. In with the new. Thanks @matzell for the new lock set, feels good having an ignition that isn’t operable by screwdriver! Column cover and hardware sourced from yoshiparts.
Looks too new.
BTW, the European P/N for the >1974 windshield is 56111-90303-83. This is the P/N you could find in Europe, I see it still listed available on Xexpress and it may be available in some places, not 100% sure of today but I know people that were...
Now that I’m reasonably road worthy, I spent some time today cleaning everything up. Checked torques, slapped on the front shocks, replaced some more fuel lines, etc. Drivetrain is fairly noisy, particularly the transmission, and I suspected...
Awesome day. Truly. Quick chat with @cruisermatt set the day off right. Swapped in the new brake master, plumbed in the lines. Bench bled and was shocked at how much air the master held. Replaced some of the rotten fuel lines and realized I was...
After my rear OMEs were delivered, I quickly made a for sale ad here on mud and ordered a set of the TT parabolics. They were just way too stout. Same situation with a soft top 43.
I can, and that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing, just to get by. But long term I just want to be able to pull out, drive and pull back in. Any more effort than that and I won’t drive the 43 as much as I want to.
I think I got it to work...
That’s awesome history to have. No offense intended, the font on your vin plate just looked odd to me. None of my cruisers have had that font. I also have a 1982 Colombian FJ43.
I also made an air inlet tube for between the air filter and MAF meter. Pretty happy with that as well. Oh and I need to post the pic of the junction block on the frame rail to "complete" the brake line post above... also shown is the junction...
Pulled the master tonight, no residual valves in either cylinder. That wasn’t unexpected, I searched up an old thread from Kurt that listed this equivalent MC (Aisin BMT-040) as not having any residual valves either.
Happy to find the rear seal...
