I got a chance to look at the dash bar situation today and decided to just pull the factory sheet metal one out. The one I need to weld in needs to be in the same space. I'll just add brackets for the steering column and all the other mounting...
I finally got my two A-pillars bent up and fit up. Man what a challenge this cage is for me. I did manage to build a matching mirror image pair. I used spacers and bungee cords to hold them in position. Some magnets and whatever else I had laying...
Life is REALLY getting in the way of this build. I had a tough time mocking up my halo hoop mainly because of gravity. The Rogue Fab Mag Rings that hold the tubes in place work great for vertical stuff but they are not strong enough to hold my...
I had a period of analysis paralysis over the 2nd 15 degree bend with the 25 degrees of rotation.
On the first bend I rotated the tube down and did the bend. Perfect.
I'm working from the center out. Not from one end to the other so I wasn't...
One of the things that you've already done correctly - in my opinion - is making your base plates large and covering the body mounts. Most aftermarket "sport" cages don't even do that, so you're ahead of the game.
@Manhattan , thanks for your input. My wife and I are in our early 60's now and getting in and out is tough enough in these trucks so an important factor. After hanging upside down in a stock seatbelt, my wife requested the cage and harness. We...
For my birthday and Father's day one of my daughters got me a couple of tools from Rogue Fab that I wanted. I have a couple more on the way so I can start mocking up my cage. These aren't cheap but either is tubing. I don't have much experience...
there's no real issue with the taco rear.
you'll have to deal with routing the parking brake cable because they swing the opposite way and later tacoma pushed the mechanism under the spring.
its my understanding that the taco housing is slightly...
while this is technically accurate, the size of the drums were changed dramatically from the 1st gen pickup to the Tacoma. Add that to the idea of upgrading the fronts (which I would absolutely do the FRORF path, if I had a chance to do it...
Unless you have plans to buy an aftermarket front housing in the future, skip the Tacoma rear axle. Too much work for no gain.
Ifs rear axle modified for elocker is popular and has been done for over 20 years.
I personally thing the IFA hubs up...
I think where the confusion is coming from is the thread you quoted. The IFS (2nd Gen pickups) rear axle from 86- 94 or 95 is 3" wider than the original rear axle housing in your 82 which is a 1st gen pickup.
The 8" E-locker will still fit any...
i like the ifs hubs for width, plus it makes the brake maintenance way more convenient.
yes. it also helps with wheel choices.
the og problem with ifs wheels on a sa front is the steering arm/tre contacts the wheel. this problem is lessened or...
