It’s got a 6 speed transmission. Different from my lc. I would presume it’s still similarly reliable.

I’ve found a GX I’m really interested in, great shape, non rustbelt, lowish mileage, but the transmission was replaced at 120k. What’s everyone’s policy with an issue like that? Assume it was a defective tranny from Lexus? Or assume the vehicle is a lemon or lemon-proximate? I have my opinions...

Both sides. Two on each side. Shop is quoting like $5-6k to repair. I think I need to find a used motor to put in. Luckily, this motor was in a lot of vehicles, but I think I need a VVTi motor so that makes the possibilities a lot more finite. GX/LX or 4Runner/Tundra/Sequoia/LC. Anybody have any...

I appreciate your positivity, but it just wasn't enough positive juju to will that motor into not being failed. Zero compression in 4 cylinders. Motor turns over but is extremely rough. Not a great situation.

Zero compression in 4 cylinders. Shop thinks they can repair it, but I'm not sure that's my best option. What would helpful people on here do? I'm thinking just find a different motor, but I'm waffling and unsure.

I'm hoping for the best. Not sure it's going to turn out well. Already located a replacement engine to put in if its needed. Has less than 90k for $3500, I'm going to try and talk him down a bit if I need it. I'm really hoping I don't.

The VVTI motors do not change the position in the engine of the valves, just timing. So are you saying that the pistons have a shorter stroke in the non-VVTI motors that wouldn't hit the valves if they failed open? I'm not sure that's true. If you're saying that the VVTI in some way increases...

Seems like one of them possibly had valve damage, but he never posted the definitive. The other one doesn't seem to say anything about the engine being damaged or not. Thanks for posting those for me. I appreciate it.

Thanks for your lesson in the English language. I certainly didn’t have the ability to read that he said 06 until you told me that. I appreciate your teachings. They’re all interference engines, VVTI or not.

Verified. The belt snapped. I’m going to have it looked at tomorrow to see what damage occurred inside.
