I just picked up a 460 last Friday. Love the car a lot, and coming from a 100 series LC, I think that says something. One question I have is whether others find the range of the remote fob lacking. My LC remote would work from like a block away, but I have to be within maybe 20 yards on the GX. Also, the vehicle doesn’t detect the key when it’s inside the vehicle regularly. Anyone else experience this?

Same here, mine sucks. What Ive found to work for some extra range and its gonna sound crazy is to aim the fob into your chin and kind of tilt your head back while aiming your chin at the vehicle and hitting the button.

Can confirm this works. I think mythbusters tested this too.

So, use your head like a repeater or range extender.......how far can my chin be from the vehicle for it to work?

I honestly never use mine to unlock / lock the doors. I just touch the handle so I have no idea how far away mine works. And it has never had an issue with detecting the key inside the cabin. :meh:

This ^

On another note, I would think too much range might make you more susceptible to a relay attack.

Just to chime in, I too usually just do the door handle touch for getting in and out, but often I find that I can't remember if I actually touched the handle to lock it after I've walked away. It's such a casual motion/body movement I find it hard to always remember that, "Oh, yeah I did touch the front of the door handle and heard it "beep"."
So consequently, I'm usually pretty far when I think about that, so just to be sure I'll pull my keys out of my pocket and do the fob-to-the-chin trick.
And YES, I agree with everyone that has posted, you can about double your distance using that trick!

If you ever want to add that functionality to the rear doors

It wasnt until months after that I realized there was lock and unlock buttons on the tail gate!

Uhhhhhh.......big nope from me on that one. I'll stick to the front 2 handles and the tail gate working without taking the remote out of my pocket. :D

My '22 is similarly bad. I've gotten my Miata to lock a quarter mile away with the chin method. I usually replace battery in the fob when it gets as bad as the GX's. Disappointing, but for now at least there's the app on my phone.

My experience is similar, though I can't tell if the GX/Lexus key fobs drain the battery more quickly than others or if its just a vehicle quirk. Both of my key fobs had batteries replaced in like September 2020 so it hasn't been that long.

Mine gives the 'key not detected' error if I leave the vehicle while it's running. Sometimes it picks it up after a few seconds but sometimes I need to restart.

Same here and looking at the other replies, it seems like it's the "norm". I open my aftermarket remote start app to check if I locked it or not sometimes and remote start from the app, so it's manageable, but when I'm not that far away and I can visibly see the car really well still, the fob won't work even at that range and I don't want to take out my phone to open the app to check at that range, so it is annoying for sure lol

I have a 2012 and the remote fob range is very poor. It doesn't unlock the GX460 when I am standing in my house when the truck is parked just outside the garage, maybe 25 feet away.
