New to the board and new to forums all together.
Well I found a deal that I could not refuse I have just bought my self a 85 FJ60. I have never had a Toyota after years of Jeeps, Blazers, Bronkos, and a number of trucks. I have been in the back ground reading post's for sometime now, and would like to thank everyone that has helped me so far. I think that this is one heck of a truck, but have not been off road much yet. I live down in south Texas, and am going to use the FJ for fishing, and hunting with my too son's. The first thing that I found out was things for a Toyota are much more expensive. But it seems that most everything is down to earth and not hard to work on. So far I have everything working except headlight washers (I have never had one of these), my charge light comes on at idle, brake light shines dim all the time, and a leak at the manofold and the tail pipe,(replaced gasket twice) I am ready to just weld it. But that just gives me somthing to piddle with. But all in all I like the truck. Springs are a little soft would like a little more lift but $$$$. ( But Mom it's our fishing machine) So we will do for now. I see you guys have some awesome trucks and thank you for the pointers that I have been catching. So if you see a dull gray FJ with kayaks on top stop buy and say hay!!!!!!! Thanks Again

Welcome Deadbug! I'm new to the forum myself. But have been a proud owner for about 5yrs now.

Welcome to Mud! and the addiction the 60's will carry.
Like you, I found this board so useful that it has saved me some $$$, and hopefully that $$$ will goto a lift =)
Anyhow, welcome and hope to see some pics of your rig soon!

Got any pictures? I'm in the process of fixing the EGR exhaust leak myself. If we're talking about the same thing, then you might want to get a new stainless steel pipe from SOR. The pipe might not be straight, which means the gasket blows.

welcome,
that manifold leak may be a EGR pipe or gasket leak, do a search on these ills. Lot of folks do manifold repairs cause they think they hear a leak there..and its the EGR problems all a long...(uh, yeah I did that on my first 60, spent a bunch of $$ on exhaust manifold et all..leak still there afterwards..)

Also, Toyota parts are more expensive, but seem to last longer than their domestic counterparts, as long as you buy oem

Other useful abbreviations -

CDan - CruiserDan: great guy to get OEM parts from. He has an 800 number that I can't find right now.

SROR: Solid Rock Off Road http://solidrockoff-road.com/

IPOR: Iron Pig Off Road http://www.ironpigoffroad.com/

These were a few of the abbreviations that initially confused me. SROR is "2badjfs" on this forum.

Headlight washers:

Turn on the lights then hit the windshield washers and you'll get a squirt at the lights.

Just a few of many who make a living servicing these old rigs and know these rigs inside and out. Make it a point to read all of their posts, even if you don't yet have the problem stated in the post.

By pointing out just three I've left out many others that have 60's knowledge and I single out to read their posts....you'll soon discover who they all are.

Oh, and the brake light coming on is related to the charging problem the battery light is indicating...
