Thought I would add a build thread for the trailer since I have been modifying it recently.

Started with very used and abused M100 that Jimmy "Camo J" gave me. I traded it for a M416 with a guy from Boring, OR who wanted the M100 since it was an early model and still had a pumpkin on the axle. Straight trade for a decent trailer upgrade for me. Coated it with some type of "rhino lining" and ran it like that for years.

I had a lid built and added Front Runner cross bars to hold a CVT tent. Ran with that for a couple years then flopped my trailer going into Sourdough. Minor damage and the tent mounts all folded to the side a little bit. My shop straightened them out and welded gussets in them. Weak point is somewhere else now and I hope not to find out where.

Decided to widen the stance of the trailer with wheel spacers/adapters and switched to the Toyota 6 on 5.5. Bought new tires "same ones" and used 2 of the older ones for the trailer and kept the other 2 for spares. Went with 5th gen Runner take offs for $50 each for the trailer. Will use another one when my rear bumper is done for the spare for the Runner and trailer.

Smokin' D got me a new set of fenders made at the local welding shop for my bday. Got those installed and took it on a shake down run for the Sourdough Open in June. The wider stance worked great and I didn't lift a wheel. But the wheels rubbed the fenders with just a small amount of articulation. Replaced the springs with Rancho 2.5" lift springs and that got me the clearance needed and a better look. Ran that setup down to Sourdough on the club run in July. Again didn't notice a wheel come off the ground and no rubbing in the fenders. My shop made me a set of steps for the front of trailer that are beefy and now needed with extra height. Fenders and steps are all unboltable. Will be taken them off and getting them shot the same color as my Runner like the trailer lid is.

Now looking at building a fold out table off the tailgate and jerry cans holders on the front. More to come...

OK, now MattT flopped his on the last run while running my "old" trailer tires. He says they are cursed and that's why his trailer flopped!!!

What are the differences between your guys trailers?
What should I be looking for if I want an actual tailgate?

A tailgate of course. :p

I don't know of any military trailers that came with a drop or swing gate. Many are cut and modified like Smokin D and MattT.

My trailer had a crudely chopped out tailgate that slid into a slot. The strength is in the box, and the corners provide a lot of structure that goes away when the back is cut out.

As a preventative to flipping is there anyway to add stops to the rotating tongue of the trailer? Have it stop at 75 degrees? Its not like you need a full 360 degrees of articulation. Just seems like an easy fix.

I dunno these days, sometimes I feel upside down.
For good measure put your rear license plate on upside down. Thats what I did ; P
