I found some links to factory thermostats and saw a factory replacement for the 3B with no temp listed. I also saw a Toyota thermostat 60 and a Toyota thermostat 70. I'm assuming those are temps in celsius. I'm living in Alaska and would like my engine to be able to warm up as quickly as possible. Are those my only options? Any problems from running at higher temps on a regular basis? Are there are thermostats that you know of that allow the engine to warm up faster than the above? Thanks!

I've got two t-stats and I think there are only two different temp's of t-stat for a 3B (I could most certainly be wrong though).

There is an 82*C and an 88*C. I found that the 88*C would often raise the temp close to the redline on the stock gauge (but I don't really know what that is in *) for my comfort, esspecially when climbing the big hills going from Vancouver into the Interior of BC. So I put the 82*C t-stat in and the truck comes up to temp quicker (only marginally though) and don't have to worry about it getting to hot climbing the hills.

In the winter I just pull the rad screen down and leave it down till the weather warms up, this also helps bring the truck up to temp.

You have a block heater I assume? For Alaska I would think you'd want the 88*C t-stat, esspecially for the colder season.

I just went to NAPA for it. Altrom brand part # 154-2401 (just in case the picture doesn't stay on photobucket)

Great info! Thanks a ton. Could I get the part number for the 88* t-stat too? You should put those numbers up on the part numbers sticky. When you went into NAPA, how did they locate the right part? Just told them the engine year and they looked it up? Thanks.

That part number is as you mention for a toyota part. I don't have an after market part number for the 88*c t-stat sorry. The one I have was/is stock.

Yes, I went into Napa and told them that I needed an 82*c t-stat for a 83 toyota landcruiser with the 3B motor, 3.4L diesel. The info the better.

Well, if anyone has an aftermarket (or even toyota) part number for the 88* tstat, I'm pretty sure that's the one I'm after. I'm pretty sure the one on the part number thread is an 82* tstat, but I could be wrong. Thanks for the info guys!

ha ha ha!

what a big difference in cooling just installed the 82c t-stat, the old 88c one would sit at the half way mark the new one sits at the 1/4 mark on the stock gauge.

:D
