1978 FJ55 LandCruiser - $3900 OBO
It’s time to move my 55 on to another owner. The new HOA and recent theft of my welding equipment pretty much helped make the decision for me. Overall, this truck is in really good condition (minus the typical 55 deficiencies) and a solid candidate for further restoration.

The Good
Mechanically sound. Truck passed smog first shot after my re-smogging project. It is licensed, insured with clear AZ title and been on the road for a while now. The truck was completely re-smogged – all emissions equipment is in place and working. Brakes completely gone through with new calipers and pads installed up front. Parking brake also cleaned, inspected, and adjusted. New plugs, wires, cap. Replaced fusible link. Gas tank from another running 55 series was installed that was in excellent condition. All fuel hard lines cleaned, new fuel pump, and all rubber emissions lines replaced.
Interior door panels are in good shape as are the original Toyota rubber floor covers. Original 3-point seat belts in working order (although faded some due to time but not frayed).
The roof and roof rails are excellent, all glass is in great condition. Replaced and lubricated the hood latch mechanism which can be a problem on these trucks. Newly installed 3 to 4” Alcan springs (custom packs). U-bolt flip kit from 4+ front and rear. New battery too.

The Bad
The floors inside are solid over all but there is typical Pig rust in the front pans above the body mounts. The body mounts are good. Just needs some smaller patch pieces. I’ve already treated the mount channel on the driver’s side for further rust prevention.
Rear tailgate needs replacing but I have a spare tailgate from an earlier model with very minor rust that will be included. Rust in the outer sill channel below the tail gate. Some exterior rust on the lower rear quarters where the side and rear meet. Some surface rust on the rockers but over all they are solid. Some pin holes on the leading edge of the hood as it was from a northern truck but the rest of the hood is in very good shape.
Headliner needs to be replaced but what 30 year old one doesn’t.
Pictured wheels are not included but could be for the right price. I have a set of the white wagon wheels that many dealers put on these trucks when new and/or a set of white steelies from a ’82 Toyota 4WD P/U - basically the LC style disc steelies minus the hubcap clips – your choice.
Front seat needs to be recovered. Back seat can be repaired but a re-cover would be better.

The Ugly
Needs front right fender patch in the upper corner (currently sourced and procuring). Lower front fenders (typical pig rust areas) only need minor patching.

Extras, extras, extras
I have lots of FJ55 parts, some of which are unobtainium, that can be negotiated as part of this deal or sold separately. Including – an excellent early tailgate w/ working electric window, very good condition gas tank, a radiator, spring set for a moderate lift, Iron Pig power steering bracket and a early PU PS box to mount on it (no pump mount or pump), complete wiring harness (uncut) from ’79 55, early model hood in OK condition, and other odds and ends.

I had big plans for this truck but such is life. Hopefully it will find a good home and get the attention it needs to be a real head turner. Thanks for your interest.

Oh God, I have to call my sponsor. Walk away Loren, just walk away...

same here - im all excited then realization of no where to put it, etc.

Hope that piggy makes it to a home that will restore the old gal.

Eric you can store it at my house. Just be sure to leave the keys here ;)

That is one nice '55... stupid economy :bang:

did she find a home yet?

No love for the Piggy yet. Mostly just tire kickers.
Still waiting for the person to appreciate it.

Bump for the weekend before Cruise Moab. I also included a pic of the other rims I have available. I'd be willing to cut the price if I sold it with one of these other sets of wheels on it. The original spare goes with it regardless.

Thanks for looking.

I have a 74 pig I just picked up and started working on. I need the tailgate license plate lights (later model tailgate).

You don't have any spares of those, do you? And, what other parts might you have?

Pete just told me about this thread.

Unfortunately no tailgate lights other than those on the truck and they work great. Here is most of it -

"excellent early tailgate w/ working electric window, very good condition gas tank, a radiator, spring set for a moderate lift, Iron Pig power steering bracket and a early PU PS box to mount on it (no pump mount or pump), complete wiring harness (uncut) from ’79 55, early model hood in OK condition, and other odds and ends"

hey offroad rager, this is such a great looking 55!

I'm just starting a new project and would like to know what your lift is... this is about exactly how i want mine to sit

Hello Carneters,

This is a hybrid lift. As you're probably finding out, lifts for 55's are hard to come. I bought a set of custom Alcans 4 - 5" lift from a fellow Pig owner. It was set up for an expedition rig with customer bumpers, winch, and camping gear in the back. My truck is set up much lighter than that so I replaced the #3 and #4 spring in each of these packs with the stock #3 & #4 spring and it brough the lift down to about 3.5" and put the shackle angles back to where they should be. Much better right quality and flex too. To me it's the perfect amount of lift for a spring under Pig.

Some of 55 owners are now putting the OME 45 series springs on and moving the rear hangers back on the frame. That's one of the better options for a spring under lift without going custom springs.

Best regards,
Norm

There are Pig lovers out there. SOLD!
Going to a good home.

 Thats great! - Did it go local? Did he also get the wheels and tires that were on the pig in the pics?

Tire and wheels went with. It is temporarily in AZ getting a further make over. Then off to the NW.
