I'll be visiting the wreckers in Sharjah, UAE for some parts for my 81 to ship to the Philippines.

I'll be looking for a third row seat (bracket, seat belts etc), winch and subtank.

I've searched in the forum wondering if I could forego with the electronics of the subtank and just basically have it like a floor mounted jerrycan that I can switch on a fuel pump (or gravity feed) to drain on to the main tank. So far I haven't seen any info on this (probably not trying hard enough or just not too lucky).

Any tips on the hustlers of Sharjah? :D

Thanks, guys!

Jon

Most of the sub-tank write-ups in the FAQ describe using a common & inexpensive aftermarket fuel pump triggered by a ~$25 ECU from George at Taskled.

Thanks! I'll read it again. Maybe what I want is buried there. I was wondering if I can just low tech it with no need of electronics and gauges. Just turn on the switch to feed or drain to the main tank.

My simple advice. Grab EVERYTHING you can which is related to the whole subtank setup. If you do not, you will regret having to seek the parts at a later point. The essentials are as follows:

1. Subtank
2. Subtank straps
3. Maintank (yes, it is different)
4. Subtank ECU (see other threads for what it looks like and location)
5. Dual-Filler Neck
6. Main and subtank fill lines and emissions lines
7. Transfer pump assembly
8. Subtank Switch (in the dash)
9. Overhead console with gauges
10. Sun visors
11. All of the different wiring looms which attach to the tanks, console, switch, etc.
12. Access panel for subtank from interior

I am sure I missed something, but this is a good "shopping" list if you are actually at the wreckers and pulling parts.

And if you find an extra Overhead Console with the fuel gauge/altimeter combo, send it my way. What you do not use, can easily be sold to another member who would put the parts to good use.

I'll see what items the Sharjah wreckers have to offer. The last thread I read about Sharjah was 2006/07(?) so I'm hoping they haven't shipped all LC80 mod items to North Africa :D

Kabayan :) ,
If you can find an xtra dual fill neck and maybe able to send it to california, I might make it your while.:grinpimp: . LMK

I'll see what I can do. It'll be my first time to go to the junk shops of Sharjah. Clueless actually if I can do a win-win trade with the notorious hustlers :D
I'll try to be online when I'm there and update you guys.

Good luck buddy, also. While you are there, if you needed some help with inturpretation or translation just PM me and I'll send you my contact info. I am here in the US. but I do speak the language and familiar with the customs there...

That's exactly how it works. It is like a jerry can & it dumps fuel right into the main tank.

Just do it right and get all the parts and install it like Toyota designed it. That way you can diagnose problems via the DLC and factory manuals.

Just my $0.02

Here's the link if you are looking for a junkyard in Sharjah, I was there in 2006 Kabayan. Post 62 is where the pictures are. Make sure you haggle at them real good. https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/149629-rotw-elsie-full-stock-middle-east-specs-4.html
