So I drove off the other day with my tire swing out open...again!
Am I the only one to have ever done this? Having some time to kill and enjoy toying with electronics, why not make an alarm to tell me when my swing out is open
Had some scrap stainless that looked to be about right. Took some measurements and bent it up. Its is held on by an existing bolt thru the frame for the Slee bumper.
I used a proximity switch which is triggered by the locking pin that holds the swing out in the open position.
I have ignition switched power in the pass quarter panel all ready for my backup cam so tapped into that. The switch has 3 leads; power, ground and switched power. Needing switched ground I installed a relay to ground out the rear pass door switch that was also tapped into.

So now when the ignition is on and the swing out is open I get the (open door) in the instrument cluster as well as the rear door and dome lights will be on. When the car is off nothing is triggered by the swing out.
Again, i'm the idiot that doesn't notice the swing out open but now there's an idiot light for that
Funny, about half way through this project, while digging through boxes i found a pin switch. Used to........switch to ground when the door/hood is open. You could easily mount that instead and would only need to hook up ONE wire
