Gonna make this short. Anyone have pics of the 3 plastic grommets and screws that hold the bracket to the pillar? Or exactly what they are. I need to buy some to transfer a snorkel from one truck to another. The old ones are siliconed in and I have been trying to dig them out of the pillar for a couple of hours and it ain't goin' good.

Is this something any hardware store would have? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I want to try and get this wrapped up this morning.

THANKS!!!

To be honest if i were going to install my snorkel over again I would buy some of the 3m adhesive tape (the strong kind) they use this tape to install windows in some of the larger buildings. Buy a strip of that and attach it to the piller instead then you dont have to drill any more holes and if you really wanted to you could take the truck back to stock with just a new fender.

just a thought

where do you get that? Auto parts house? Do you think it would hold up to the force of wind doing 80+ mph down the interstate? If it did break loose it would cause some serious damage imho.

If YOU don't beat your 80 and let it drag trees and large vines that lean or hang in the trail the double tape may be a short term fix ,But i cant count the times i think the snorkel should have pulled off my truck and or broken in half NADA solid as a rock,The screen was MIA long ago,but that all that busted or pulled out..

I would get the original stuff for the long haul...

Frankie,

Do you think you could get those grommets at Lowes or home depot?

I am with you though. If that tape broke loose it could tear the snorkel body from the truck and the damage would multiply exponentially. Just minimizing the risk........

The tape sounds like a good idea. I think having the tape give way if you leaned on it would be better than ripping a strew out of your pillar.
.

Frankie,

Do you have an extention for Mike at ARB? I used to talk to Tim Lund pretty regularly, but I seem to have lost his business card & contact info. I really would prefer to go back with the fasteners that ARB intended if they will send them to me. I still have a pair of Old Man Emu front shocks for a 3rd gen 4runner/tacoma that are brand new and totally useless because they are missing the bottom spring plates. I never could get any help from ARB on that, but it seems like they WOULD turn loose of a couple of screws and plastic grommets if I begged hard enough! HA!

Very Good! Thanks so much Frankie. I will give Mike a call and let you know what he says.

BTW, what is Danny D been building? I haven't seen him lately and haven't had a chance to ask. Another ASM? Just food for thought..... John Schiedhauer up here in memphis is selling a super sweet copy of an Avalanche Chassis for little $$$ if you know anyone interested. I would love to have it, but lack a few of the core parts I would need to put it together.

X2 on how to install, where do you get those Christo? A specialty race shop?

Those definitely sound better than the plastic squares.

Plus i bet I could find them locally.

I agree Hokie...........

Also Christo, what size nutserts would you recommend, provided I can acquire them locally?

Last i hear from Dan he was looking for an 80 to build..

You can see pics of rivnuts on my install from a bunch of years ago.

No issues since then, no rust/corrosion/ripping out etc etc.

Snorkel installation

From the writeup I use 10-32 sized rivnuts. Any decent fastener store should have them AND the tool to set them.

We coated the rivnuts with plastic goop prior to 'setting' them to provide some weather sealing.

cheers,
george.

Thanks George! Headed to Fastenal right now. Just curious, was the install tool expensive?
