So I have searched and read my Chilton book and kind not find what this part is. The part that is inside of the red circle. I have a 1985 land cruiser that is nothing but a toy/hunting truck.

Thanks, I guess I will leave that in there. Next is removing the egr and egr cooler.

May I be the first to suggest the factory service manuals? They are available in various places to download and they'll do you much better than Chilton, Haynes, et al.

Also, if you haven't already, search for FJ40Jim's desmog instructions on this forum. It's the bible of decommissioning the emissions systems.

Oil cooler.

Or oil heater, depending on what's going on. The water- to- oil system that
the Land Cruiser uses is good in a lot of circumstances- and very simple-
IF the water cooling
system is up to snuff...

A second for the FSM. I know folks sound a little like a cult around here when they pop into threads and ask "Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about Toyota and their bible the FSM?" but they are worth it. One of the popular posters here has them linked for download as PDF files in his sig. They're actually better than the FSM sold by Specter Offroad (when comparing the two, Ive seen additional instructions in the PDF that are missing from my Specter manual).

I will download it tonight after work. I am just trying to strip this land cruiser down to the bare basics. Half of the stuff doesn't even work anyways.

The oil cooler can be removed if you wanted to. A lot more work than its worth though.

Would need a new oil filter mount and a different water pump. I think.

As far as the emissions controls go, this thread should cover everything you need to know: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/188643-my-desmog-thread.html
Its a very long read, but well worth it to read it as many times as you need.

Also, (See attached PDF) This is a very good instructional reference that pretty much based on the mentioned thread. I used it to desmog my 60 and it was very easy to follow.

Good luck!

Yes. I down loaded family on this site. Then I spent the day printing them and putting in 2 big ass binders. It is awesome to have by the car when working on them.
I just desmoged my 60. I will answer your questions as you go. If needed.

You probably want that vacuum line that's on the dizzy advancer to be plugged onto the inside nipple and cap the outside one which is the high altitude port.
Being you only have one hooked up.

i was just trying to figure out what that oil cooler was myself! just got my fj60 a few weeks ago and just got it running over the weekend (it had been sitting for at least 6 years) and once it got up to operating temp i noticed it is leaking coolant out of this box and could not figure out what it was. is this a common problem? it looks like its cracked? not trying to go crazy with this land cruiser right now just running and not leaking anything. is it common for these to go bad and mix coolant and oil? i havent changed the oil yet but it looked like there might be some coolant in the oil due to a white slime on the filler cap.

i thought that was correct with a desmog at low altitude -- now got me concerned
