I understand there are several types (VR, Hall, Optical, etc) dizzy pickups, but I don't know what type the FJ-60 dizzy uses.

I have tried various searches, but come up empty. I need to know this in my TBI conversion, in building my ECU

I believe 99.9% it is an inductive pickup (IPU). But wait for confirmation on this before ordering your TBI ECU.

Every other Toyota of this era that I have messed around with was an Inductive Pick-up. Including the Toyota system that I put in my air cooled VW's 010 distributor. If you spin the dizzy with the pick-up plugged into an O-scope or a fast DVOM you should see a ~1 VDC signal in time with each reluctor lobe. If you look at it very carefully you should see that the signal is generated on the trailing edge of the reluctor lobe, not the leading edge. With wide lobes, like those found in Ford D-S II system, this is much more obvious. The narrow lobes of GM & Toyota reluctors make it harder to see.
