ok, I've got a Holley which seems to work nicely, but I think I would gain gas mileage if I went to a progressive type such as the Aisin or Weber. Am I right?
So, it's a bit overwhelming on which one to look for, which one would make the easiest conversion.
The 2F is all desmogged and has HEI.
I'd also be interested in trading or selling the Holley.

I have a Holley and went to a weber. Weber sucks more gas than the Holley. I prolly be going back to holley. I had no complaints with the Holley, just thought I'd try a Weber. MPG really dropped FYI
 
Vagabond, here's my take on the question:
(a) regardless of brand name of carburetor, the air/fuel mixture has got to be correct, and you should be able to make it correct (jetting and adjustment) regardless of brand name.
(b) enough folks on this forum like stock Toyota carbs that I'm going to keep my mouth shut about them. Evidently they have had luck with them, I haven't.
(b) besides Webers being smallish, they really are not (and can not be) set up for off road use---in terms of float bowl breathing and baffleing, or prevention of fuel spillage.
(c) I've been selling Holleys for 38 years, and in that 38 years Downey, Holley, and Moroso have invented zillions of little upgrades to make Holleys work great in off road terrain and high altitude. Generally those who bad mouth a Holley have never had one properly set up for off road terrain!!!!!
 
Big Jim is right:

If the carb is properly tuned and set up for the engine, they will all give the same mileage.

YMMV (quite literally)
