I am planning on buying a floor jack and some jack stands for my 2002 LC. Is a 2 ton jack sufficient or is 2.5 ton or 3 ton sorta needed

Max lift height is important, you'll need blocks to chock up a 2 ton jack for it to be useable, go with a 3 ton unit. Much safer, easier more efficient. I gave away a 2 ton and replaced it with a 3 for these reasons.

Thank You! 3 ton jack stands as well?

For the axles, yes... I use some 12 ton ones for the frame. Overkill? Maybe. but when you're underneath a three ton rig cranking on stubborn bolts, the last thing I want to contemplate its that thing wobbling off it's stands, or worse. Pick up some decent wheel chocks while you're at it. Cheap at Harbor Freight.

Yep, 3 ton stands too. You don't want things maxed out and at full extension when you're under the vehicle. 2 ton stuff might be ok for changing a tire on a Honda FIt or something, but a bit inadequate for a 100/470 IMHO.

Also using 6-T stands but primarily because of the height. I use a 2-T floor jack with a 6" wood block under the cross-member and then place the stands under the frame. The jack is pretty strained and bigger would be better. I have at least 6 jack stands around in various sizes as they come in real handy as adjustable height stands for all kinds of projects so don't worry about picking up some variety there.

Still haven't found the jack that I like from a load/height/cost formula but have a few that get the jobs done...

Keep in mind jack stands are rated in pairs, not single. And always have a backup method like sliding the tire back under to create survivable space if the poo hits the fan.

Had a friend who was crushed under his car when the cinder blocks it was on gave out. This is sage advice.
