I have an 2004 LC with 85K miles on it all stock except cranked torsion bars and no running boards.

My battery was going bad and the "MAINT REQD" light would start blinking when I would start my vehicle and then stop and go away. I thought it was because of my low battery but i just put a nw interstate in it and the "MAINT REQD" light still blinks when I start the vehicle or about 5 seconds then goes away.

Anyone know what is goining on?

MAINT REQD IS NOT THE SAME AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

You have factory Navigation right? Try going into the info and maintenance screen and reseting all maintenance items. Also do the manual clear of the maintenance light as spelled out here.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/203190-reset-maintenance-required-light.html

Unlike the CEL, the maint required light is generic and does not reference any specific code or item. If you just bought the truck new than you have no idea what really needs maintenance (unless you got really good service records with it).

I would clear everything, and then start baselining all the maintenance items.

Drive to your dealer IMMEDIATELY!. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Serious engine damage may occur if you do not deal with this right away.

Of course you could always RTFOM!

Check your owners manual as tm said. It will tell you what to do if maintenance is required. Its triggered at certain intervals so you properly maintain your vehicle. If all maintenance has been completed just follow the step by step instructions to reset it. Only takes a minute to do.

Yes, I am being serious. I have only owned the vehicle for 4 months so still learning about all the bells and whistles.

Thanks, Trunk Monkey

The maint req light comes on every 5000 miles to remind you that you need to change your oil. It means nothing more than that (as far as I know and have been told). There are many places online to teach you how to turn it off. I can't remember off the top of my head but just google it and you can turn it off. It takes about 15 seconds to do. No biggie. Of course, make sure you change your oil then turn it off so it doesn't come for another 5000 miles.
Cheers!

Set trip to odometer view. Turn key off. Hold selector button or reset button(this is all toyotas not just 100) then turn key to on position. Keep holding until light is reset.

Just to update or clarify.... I found the YouTube tutorial that said to set odometer to "Trip A" and it did not work. What DID work for my 2007 fj100 was just having it on the regular 'ol odometer reading, then with everything off, push in the odometer rod/button and hold, then turn key to "on" and keep holding.... the MAINT REQD light then flashed a bunch of times and then turned off.

wow! So much trouble just for not reading the manual!
Maint Req light is for oil change! That's it! No reason to freak out and tow it to a dealer as if the whole thing is about to explode … or will it?
