So in its previous life, my cruiser was a kiddy hauler... as such there was all sorts of nastiness inside the middle seat. I could hear stuff rolling around inside it. The final straw was when something melted and ran out of the seat... luckily it was in my garage at the time.

I removed the bottom panel on the seat. The leather folds under and clips in. not too difficult... hopefully re install won't be too tough. After the leather is unclipped there are about 8 or 9 screws to remove and one handle. After that it just pops off.

You can see the melted gunk and other stuff stuck to the panel and seat.

Here's the pile of stuff I pulled out and the paper towels I used to wipe up whatever melted

Dog hair...

Try a border collie and a blue heeler...both dump their coats in the spring and fall:mad:

No spare change??

Ha ya 11 cents. Shoot man, I don't think anything outsheds a golden... Maybe a Pyrenees. Luckily it's about the same color as my carpet.

i replaced my leather 8mo ago from a previous mall cruiser....children are gross

I bought an ML430 for my wife from a racing buddy. The guy who had been driving it for the last few months before I bought it had two blue heelers. I got enough hair out of that truck to knit him a new dog!

Any close ups of the clips/removal? I've got a Lego piece I've been meaning to get out.

I can take some later and post them tomorrow. essentially the leather or fabric is sewn to a plastic strip. That strip folds into a channel that goes all the way around the seat. Took me about 30 min to take it apart

is that one of those delicious edible candy bands? if so, can I haz?

looks gross...kind of like those 2 dead rats I found in the engine bay...speaking of that, "new" thread time.

My middle seats make rattling sounds when I lift them up. It sounds like marbles or something... Need to dig mine open too.

Was it hard to put back.

unfortunately it wasn't, otherwise I would have eaten it myself! It was just plastic. I did snack on the green goldfish I found and petrified french fries...

I have not put it back yet, will do do that tonight. I will update when I finish, but I don't think it'll be too difficult.

thanks for the post this is on my to do list please let us know on the "put back" time frame and aggravation level

Ha! Second pic reminds me of Halloween! Thanks for doing this and posting your experiences. I've been meaning to do this as I can hear change bouncing around when I put up/down the middle row seats. Who knows what else I'm going to find in there...I shudder at the thought :p

I finally got a chance to put it back together. Only took about 15min.

There are 9 screws, one is shorter than the other 8 so pay attention. Here you can see the plastic sewn to the leather and the channel it pops into

Replacement hinge

In your picture above, the outside hinge with the spring is very noisy on my car, and when someone is sitting in that seat it clicks and makes all kinds of noises. It looks like the pivot pin is worn down, but am not sure. Anyone know where I could get the hinge from?

Thanks

thanks again for posting this; I often want to do things myself and look at the item and say "am i gonna brake it and make it worse?" with someone doing it and providing support or easy look up incase I question what I'm doing helps.
