Thanks Brian, for keeping this list sane :) I think people from the southern States are throwing things out of perspective sometime.
I can show you some rust here in Nova Scotia. :) People here fix it with duct tape and drive another 5 years.
So I think you should be fine with the truck posted above :grinpimp:

that is rust free, other than the 5k part, i'd jump on that.

this is frame rust

I don't think 5K is too crazy for that kind of mileage. If the frame isn't too bad and if your willing to clean the frame and POR it i would take it. Maybe talk the guy down some more if you can.

I bought a 1 owner, rust free 1990 FJ62 with 187K on the clock for $4000. So i don't see $5K being all that bad.

But like Mace said...take a hammer to the frame and see what comes off.

Good luck.

I'd expect better from a West Coast cruiser but that isn't any different then 99% of the Cruiser up here in Vermont.

Pound around with a hammer and make sure it's just surface scale. But if the body is truly rust free, it's a decent deal (at least around here it would be)

Then you can hit it with a wire wheel, pressue wash, then paint it up with a heavy bar & chain oil which will actually turn that orange to black and keep more from forming.

The underside of my 85 4runner looked similar. A quick wire brushing and then I sprayed it all underneath with 23 cans of Napa spray bar & chain lube. Even after a winter of salt, everything is still black. There is a chemical in good b&c lube that actually "kills" rust.

Where in Cali?

Where in Cali are you looking? Have you tried Craiglslist? The Bay Area has a good stream on Cruisers listed and many are in the $5k range with (from the ones I've seen) fewer rust issues.

Body seems pretty clean...

What are the doors like...where the hinges meet the door?

What are the rear door and lift gate like?

If those areas are clean, that truck would probably get 4-5K around here....funny thing is...I remember when that truck, even with the frame corrosion, would have sold for 9+ all day long...with 100K+ on the clock.
