Just wondering if anyone has run these tires before. I'm looking at buying a set of new take offs from a 78 series.

Hoping some of the boys from down under will chime in on this.

I know they were oem tires on most new 7x series

Here n South Africa or Namibia it is the standard tire for the 79 series pick-up. It comes with the 16" split rims and tubes and the idea is that is thin enough not to protrude beyond the wheel arches and that you can take of the tire without special tools, but it is actually quite difficult and potentially dangerous to remove the split rims. Not all the smaller local garages know how to do it.

Most people replace them quite early with something wider and tubeless and if you can get 25 000 km on them on anything else than good tar roads, you are lucky

They are quiet running, but quite expensive here

Nice tires. I use Yoko Y735B on my split ring rims. These are available in North America and are a mud and snow rated tire.

If done right, breaking down and reassembling a split ring rim isn't gonna kill you. I've done it myself quite a few times at home and take all the precautions. There is a difference between split ring and split rim. Mr T gave us split ring not rim. Plenty of threads here on mud to that end.

I have not been able to locate anywhere to buy these. Could you provide a source?

I picked them up at a chain here in southern CA called Ramona Tire. I had to ask for them by brand and model. A Yoko light truck tire dealer should have them. Also tire rack sells an AT version in 7.50r16 made by Yoko.

I'm may have found a set of Super Hajari tyres. Does anyone know if they will be able to mount on a 7" steel rim? Or will the rims be too wide for the tyre?

Depends on the size. I think all Super Hajari's are 7.50R16 right? If so, should fit perfect. This is the perfect size for the narrow-ness of the split ring rims.

Thanks for the prompt response.

Here is the listing I'm looking at:

Maybe I'm missing something cause it almost seems like too good a deal?

Again, I would be mounting these on a non-split ring style rim. They would be the standard 16" steel rim that came with Tacomas and Tundras.

Sounds like it should work though.

The standard steel rim is 7" wide IIRC. Tires should work. I dont like the tread pattern, it reminds me of the tires that came with my splits, some Chinese brand. Completely dangerous on wet roads. Maybe this rubber will be better. If the tires are squirly on wet roads, I'd run a tire groover perpendicular to the rolling direction on both sets of the outer treads to let water escape out the sides as the tire rolls.
