I just ordered new carpets for my 06 from Carid.com I ordered the Essex in Charcoal. They offer a Mass backing for a bunch more money (and weight) and as I friend is muling it down to Costa Rica for me I need to keep the weight down.
I thought about using yoga mats for additional sound/heat /cushioning. Has anyone ever used them. They are cheap enough, and being a beach town, there are lots available..

Good way to retain water I guess.

Sure, I don't see why yoga mats wouldn't work so long as they're not too thick to prevent you from tucking the edges of the carpet under trim pieces. I imagine that might work pretty well for insulation; as for sound deadening I would assume it would help some but I wouldn't be expecting any crazy improvement. For the most part sound deadening in vehicles reduces repeated vibrations to prevent the prolonging 'tin can' echo effect of noises that make them seem like they can be heard for several seconds after the initial sound is made. You could also used what're called "Equine Stall Mats"

I have seen those before, they might be a bit thick.

you think it would be worse than those expensive sound/heat mats other folks have used?. Do you see an issue of condensation?

The upside would be that you could tell your women friends "ya, been spendin some quality time on the yoga mat lately.

Some yoga mats are open-cell foam to allow them to absorb sweat, avoid those, but others use closed-cell foam and won't soak up water and would be better for this use.
