ok i ripped all the steering chit off my fj40. now i was running stock steering all around so just so you know and with the 35s i need more help. now what i wanna do is put in a tilt steering column to a toyota mini truck power steering box. i already have the mini truck bracket. then i wanna run a chevy power steering pump of my 350 and run the lines to the toyota box.

1st question
will i have problems with a chevy pump to a toyota box?

2nd question
do you see any flaws in connections here i.e. rag joints, angles, anything?

3rd question
are the power steering hoses going to be a pain in the ass?
I take it the toyota and chevy threds are diff on the box and pump?

thanks for your help
mike

I don't have any answers for you, but maybe a few questions to to ask the FJ experts. What psi does the Toyota pump work at? What psi does the chevy pump put out?

The hose should not be to much of an issue. Take both pieces to a parts dealer and get them to let you look through there fittings. ( I have a friend who did the same on another steering system conversion). After you get the hardware spend some time in the yello pages and find a place that makes hydrolic hoses and you are in buisness. The bottom line is the cost. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

I ran saginaw pump to LC power box for yrs. The mini box and bracket is not worth the effort IMO, and is considered to be a assist steering rather then power powersteering. Plus you are stuck with center pivot still.

What tilt column? model, manufacture, etc... if you plan a gm column you might have problems with length of column, you might have to cut the column down (not bad but time consuming). yes you will have weird connection problems.

try search both here and pirate, should answer lots of the questions you have, research before you buy stuff saves $$$, and time. Also check out tech links here!

i checked out the tec stuff here which is what gave me the idea. Its a gm tilt column from a 78 camero. should work although the one i saw it in has the chevy power steering.
So your saying that the toyota bracket and mini stuff wont help much? Ive only talked to one other person whos done this and they said it helped alot. although they were driving on road more then off.

thanks mike
