What year did the Electric throttle come out for the 4.7l v8? This is a question for the 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser. Also, what year did the VVTI come out?

What I am looking for is years/models that had the 4.7l vvti and a cable throttle body. Also preferably models that came with the 5 speed auto.

Unfortunatly, with the Tundra and Sequoia you wont be able to. I know for a fact that the 04 and up Tundras have the electronic thottle. In 05 they went to the vvti and 5spd auto in the Sequoia, Tundras, and 4Runners. All vvti's have the electronic throttles. Im pretty sure the Sequoia was the first to have electronic throttle in 03 with the non-vvti and 4spd tranny. Its really a bad combo with the lower hp.

The early 4.7s had a cable throttle body...but it was only partial. The cable could only rev the truck up to just above 1k rpm, then beyond that the cable pulled the sensore and then the servo pulled the throttle body the rest of the way. For all intent and purpose, it was drive by wire. So if you were looking to get rid of the throttle body electronics, you won't be able to as they're all tied in together.

It was a weird arrangement, and may have been done for emergency situations, if your throttle body controller goes out, you can still nurse the truck home. That is no longer the case, as they are entirely drive by wire now.

Is there a throttle position sensor (or someone called something else) in the pedal?

I found one guy who told me he has done 2, but without any details.

I love the way the 4.7l vvti/5 speed auto works. I want to start piling up the information on swapping it into my '86 mini.

So it sounds like I am going to have to swap in more 4Runner parts into my mini if I want this system to work.
