CCI Shotshell Ammunition 38 Special, 357 Magnum 109 Grain #9 Shot Box of 10 - MidwayUSA

They're basically mini shotgun shells for handguns. Purpose is primarily for snake protection. Shot size is very small because it provides better pattern density. You're firing at a fairly small target, and the rifling in a handgun barrel tends to spread the shot and make an erratic pattern.

It would be easy for someone to even walk by or ride a bike and take a shot at a dog.

And, snakeshot is not very deep penetrating. Each pellet has very little energy. Snakeshot can be ineffective on a heavy winter parka.

Thx, great info, fits the data. Makes me even happier to open carry as I go about my day...

Gonna try to get assigned locally, so's whoever cain't tell if I'm home r not based on the cars in driveway., since i can bike/ski/walk to the nearest station.

FYI, added more to my post since you looked at it.

^ agin, great stuff, feels like we're getting closer to a (non) pattern.

ie:SMF decided one day to pop off at my dog. Little did that little bit know.... Cameras will catch the plate, stolen or not.

can SA's shoot snake, or only revolvers?

Yes, semi-autos can shoot snake shot loads. However, very seldom are they able to cycle the action. Generally you have to manually eject the empty and chamber a fresh cartridge. The discontinued Remington 45 ACP load I mentioned was able to cycle most .45 pistols, and is one of the few exceptions.
Note that the report from a pistol is going to be slightly less loud than a pistol. This is because of the gas escaping at the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. Out of a rifle, some of the 22 rimfire snake loads are fairly quite.

snake shot is a good call.

you sure the dog didnt get out and harass a cyclist, or a jogger?

does the dog rush the fence at passersby?

Glad the pups OK. Nice looking dog.

I think Brian and Zimm are on to something. Looks like snake shot. What about your mailman?

When I was researching which pistol to buy, I came across this vid. It shows just how quiet the .22 shotshells are. They are subsonic, and quite quiet.

80% sure the dog didn't get out, though they do bark and fence-run at passersby, 2 and 4 legged both.

The regular morning walking elderly couple don't mind, the east neighbor scowls and yells back (after which they get quiet and slink back inside), FedEx and UPS are used to it, and the meter reader stays on the far side of the driveway. No propane delivery, and they were fine w/the septic dude.

No mail delivery: nearest boxes are half-mile away. Only ever seen one cyclist, and never a jogger: this is rural land 27 miles from Abq city limits, all 2 acre lots (former hunting leases w/old cabins from when the ranch was subdivided in the late 50's) and after 10 years of living here, I'm still the new kid on our little strech of road.

the quiet load would explain why neighbors didn't hear it.

yep, whitepatch on his chest, and sternum, along w/subq masses, thus incredibly difficult to place. (White anywhere is a disqualifying feature in dobermans). Didn't stop him from crawling into my heart, and his height is a DQ as well.

never heard of such a thing (the white patch), do they tend to get put down by the breeder, like white boxers?

My .02 CJ, any neighborhood punks? Maybe some kids that came to visit one of your neighbors?

shootin the cacti.

Nope, they tend NOT to happen in a pure-bred, or as another forum sed, he's a 'poorly-bred'. :lolz:

I won't go into the politics of fawn/white dobers: tmd. (too much drama). Short version is: double recessive, as in other breeds that do cull their pups.

Not going there: this is about my dober-cross rescue.

Thanks for everybody's input, keep it coming.

One punk I already warned off, telling 'em I coulda had sumptin in my hand when he was eyeballn my dogs. last spring, IIRC.

Neighbors grandkids don't come by much, other than 20ish chick w/ new puppy.

Mite hafta talk to her, tho the mom sez nutn went down.

update: found a pellet in the other dogs left flank. well, I think it's pellet: she got bugged after I poked at it too long. another rescue dog, and she's got boundries I've never seen in 10 yrs of dobers, so I'm not gonna push much futher.
