looking for an early hj60 power steering pump in working conditioin.

Good luck. Basically i have been searching that for years now. The ones available are usually shot.

here is what I learned in my long quest:

The newer bracket does not bolt to the old block. It requires the newer style engine mounts, and these have a different angle than the old ones-the engine mounts are not interchangable.

The O rings for the bolts, the big O ring for the cover and the front seal (where the pumps usually leak) are still available from Toyota.

I will try the following soon (probably the weekend after this one: I have a newer style pump (from a HJ61). Some of the bolts line up at the bracket from the old pump, but some do not, since the new pump is longer. I will try to cut and re-weld the bracket, so the new pump fits. We'll see how that goes-I'll let you know.
cheers,
Jan

thanks for that info. i'll quit looking and wait to see how your project turns out. i have a newer style engine and pump(89 model) with the earlier 60 series mounts that also work in a 40 series frame. hopefully your solution will work and i can copy it. :D

Please remind me, if I forget to post whether it worked.

OK, here it goes. We did the change to the newer style pump this weekend, and it was one of the most complicated things I ever did on this truck.
The newer style pump (mine came from an HJ61) has a bracket that matches 2 bolt holes with the old one. Fortunately the offset of the pulley is the same as the old one.
Here's what we did:

Remove the old engine mount. Cut off the power steering bracket from that mount completely.
Bolt on the new pump with the 2 front bolts that match.
fab a new bracket that bolts to the 2 front bolts from the engine mount, and 2 rear bolt holes of the power steering pump.
put it all back together.
than of course the high pressure line did not fit anymore, since the angle is now different, so we fabbed a new high pressure line, which was not so easy either.

time: I started at 7 am, Michael joined at 9, and we were done at 4pm.
lots of work, and not easy.

the new pump is great though.
