Are you 2F'ing me?!
I want this thing! but I don't want it for 2500!

Especially compared to the rust bucket and the hack job buggy on 38s that he posted in his "looking for a 40 thread" I think mine is in great shape.

I have been looking at a lot of sale threads and I think for 2500 its a pretty good deal. Worst case scenario you put a 3fe in it.

I did a ton of work and sunk a lot of cash into it before blowing over a grand into the engine.

I should have just put a 350 in it :bang:

If the pics are legit.... then that's a very fair price. I just wouldn't be able to swing it. Hell, I got a donor 3FE/A440 in Lorena that would be PERFECT for this project.
Just not the right time for me right now... maybe next year, but one day I will be DD'ing a 3FE'd 40 around Auburn...

The pics with the hardtop were taken this weekend, I didnt photoshop them so I dont know how much more legit they could be.

I wish I had bought that rolled 91 someone posted several months back. That would have been great -but- even if my 40 ran I would still be throwing money hand over fist at it trying to make her more like an 80 series.... 40s kick 10 kinds of ass, I just dont wheel very hard and pack too much :censor: when I go camping.

before a 40 could even be close to meeting my wants and desires it would have to be very similar to this one https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/258881-my-new-1976-finally-turn-key-40-a-4.html Except green... and with a 5 speed... and a diesel... and then I would want better springs, and a second fuel tank, and a tan top, and better tires, and stock steelies with hubcaps, and I would probably want AC before we drove back to New Mexico.... then I would need a trailer so that I could fit all of our stuff + dog.

that wish list only seems like about a 20k dollar 40... I could swing that on $9 an hour... who needs a house I have an RTT

That's the spirit! You gotta live while you're young.

I just spent some time on autotempest. You get a lot more results when you do any make any model and type fj40 into the key word search....

kid is getting a hell of a deal

he better let me drive her once she is up and going.

Yes, he is:

I wouldn't fret too much, this time next year you can probably buy it back for pennies when his freshman year priorities change.;)

I guess what I am saying is... Compared to the 40s I see going for $5k-$6k. And looking butt-ugly and stuff, it's priced well. It's not perfect. In fact it's pretty much a beater. It was my daily driver for a year and a half until last summer. But I think it's priced right for someone who wants to put in a little more money and have an awesome 40
I could say the exact same thing about mine.

I have seen that. He has a LOT of rust in the rear, which mine is relatively free of.

I bet squatch will make money off the 40.... starting this low itll be hard to lose money at this point.
I paid 3500 for it, then immediately spent 200 bucks on the exhaust that some PO had used as a skid plate. Then I bought the top and doors for 600, the lift and tires I didnt pay for, me and a buddy "traded" back and forth.

I cant count the number of hours I spent fighting bondo, or the money I spent on sand paper and sanding wheels/disk.
rebuilt all 4 brakes
chased different electrical bits.
I bought the early style turn signals because I thought they looked cool.
it did NOT come with factory seats, the seats it came with were junk, those gray seats are really nice and cumfy.
bought bumpers front and rear

I am sure I did more that I have forgotten about....

but 2500 will be a nice bite out of either my mortgage or my student loans.... :frown:

Yea... And might I add a nice chunk out of my wallet ;) it ain't easy for a high school student to make $2500 for a car!!! Especially one that won't run!!

You have two cars that run... If you don't want a project save another 3 or 4 thousand dollars and buy a 40 that runs. I don't want it to sound like I'm being forceful or pushing you into this. You already talked me down a grand past my bottom dollar.

Haha I'm just messing with you ;) I can say that I have been excited ever see this became a possibility!! Now that it's in the works, all my mind has been on is the 40!! A project is what I wanted... I knew that from day one, I think yours is the best combination of a project and a good solid 40... It needs some work, but I'm willing to do it!!! Land cruisers are a passion of mine ( and I think everyone else here ) so I don't mind spending the money and putting in the time!!! I'll have it running and in TTown by fall ;) and I will be more than happy to let you take a test run :D

I'm just so glad you have worked with me and allowed my dream to come true!! I have always wanted a 40, I never would have dreamed having one before I got out of high school though!!! I am ecstatic about this cruiser!! I'll see you Sunday ;)

EDIT: I just wanted to say, in the above post it could have come off to some people that I was unhappy with the condition of the vehicle or the price... neither is the case! This 40 is in pretty damn good shape, and the fact that it will be all mine is worth the $2500 + whatever I have to put into it! I don't mind working on this rig to turn her into the fine diamond she will become! In fact if you remember the thread I posted about wanting a 40 I said I wanted a project... I am much better off with this cruiser than I am working on those old rust buckets I was looking at! I don't plan on trying to cut corners or anything, I want to do this right! Mostly because thats the right way to do things you know? but still partly just because I love these vehicles and I want to see this one restored to the road by my own two hands, and maybe learn a thing or two! This will be a long process, but I am more than excited to get to work!!

2nd Edit : isnt this thread about someone wanting to buy an 80 or 100 series?? lol sorry to have caused the major hyjack!! back to the topic!

How'd the sale/trade go? or did it?

He is trying to track down a trailer... Hopefully itll work out this weekend, then Ill bring the 93 to my parents so I can use the tractor to lift it up and pull the axles out.

I promised my parents the 93 would be on its way to Arkansas once the axles are out from under it... I have a feeling Ill need some excuses on deck for when that doesnt happen immediately...

arkansas?

yea, the "actual owner" my buddy luke lives in Arkansas, he just sold his house here in town. I have been the custodian of the vehicle since purchase... slowly removing parts... waiting for a weekend when he could help do the axles. We have both been very busy though and never could make our schedules match...

Now I am debating if I want to rebuild both axles while they are out, or run them till they need rebuilding.... :hhmm:
either way I will at least clean them up and paint them a nice dark shade of green before putting them under my truck.

I hate myself right now.

now how mad are you going to be when he finds something simple that kept it from running. Either way, he's happy, your happy, and the truck will hopefully be running again soon. Congrats to everybody.

I've got some nice volvo seats for sale, cheap...

He told me he will drive it to graduation on the 25. I hope it is simple.

Now what to spend my monies on....
