I recommend Bruce Berry, 687-8078, for service. He's located on underwood road past Apple Tree Honda. Did the head gasket on my 80. Does Porsche, Audi, VW also. Great guy.

Is it really THAT much more for parts then a similar model year Acura or Lexus or the like? I have not found it to be. Don't get me wrong, Audi's are not cheap by any stretch, but I am constantly amazed at the price for parts for other brands too.

I don't know. Is $50 for a catalytic coverter in line with other luxury brands?

($1,200 w/out the warranty....)

I've been considering getting an AR or sedan as a second driver. I had an A8 that I loved, but traded on the wifes Honda mini van as I was waiting for something major to go on it. Always little things like switches going ($50-$100) with the tranny going on a lot higher mileage (80-100k, i know not really high) early A8's.

I recently went back to Audi world and it read like a Land Rover site, in effect you'll love the cars and learn to appreciate the "issues" and don't own one without an extended warr.

Go with a 6spd in the allroad...

Besides our 40th Anniversary 80, our other car is a 2002 6spd manual allroad. SUPER car, absolutely love it to pieces.
www.audiworld.com is your source for any info you need. The allorader forum is particularily good as the regulars are really helpful and nice. No attitudes. This site was put together by one of the members for allroad only info: www.allroadfaq.com

A word of caution on the automatic trannies...it is common it seems to have the torque converter failing and it is not cheap to have it fixed. I'd look for a good 6spd one. You also won't have 'tip' lag with the turbo engine when driving a 6spd. It's an issue, just look around in the forum.

Extended warranty is a good idea with all the fun equipment like turbos, air suspension, compressor etc., etc...

Good luck. It is a BLAST to drive

My old boss had an A6 - he loved the car, but you have to do things like pull the engine to replace the failed door handle. "Maintenance" was basically another car payment by 60K miles.

If getting nicked and dimed to death was bothering you, don't buy an Audi because they throw silver dollars at you

Read up on them at Consumer Reports. My memory is that after 2001 they rate them a lot higher.

Might also be worth it to pay a bit more and buy Certified Pre-Owned.

I found one in ATL for 16800 with 68000 miles and a 4/100k warranty. I thought I would do it...... Then I drove a Volvo XC. The thing that makes me like the Swedish Tractor is the dang built in booster seat for my kid. Man is that nice....

oooh. ummm. thats lame eh?

You should definitely read Consumer Reports about that car. Steered me away. Also, if your wife will drive the car and she's short, have her drive it. My wife (5'1") couldn't see past the massive head rests on the seats.

I would sell you my A4 Quattro for less than you are wanting to pay :D
