there are varying theories on the proper way to install electrical connectors. For those that solder, there is a theory out there that heating the wire will cause it to break down and become a fire hazard. Damned if you do.... Either way, just make sure that the connections are solid and not loose. They should be able to take a good yank on it. If it comes off, then its no good.

I can see wire breaking down and becoming a fire hazard only if you bought cheep crap wire and over heated the wire before adding solder, spend the extra money on good quality wire with a good heat resistant jacket. Make sure the soldering tip is at 100% heat for the wire that you are using and there should be no worry’s:)
 
i guess i should have been more clear. all the smaller wires are soldered and heat shrunk. the larger, battery cables that are like 2ga. or something... slide the terminal connector on and use a chizel or what ever and a hammer to "crimp" the end on. then, heat shrink it.

sorry i didnt come over with out notice yesterday randy, i got hit with something pretty hard and was on the couch all day.
 
Did some more painting on the hard top today. Masked everything off and sanded down then rattle-canned the amby doors. Now have the drivers side to do. Not a pro job by any stretch of the imagination but its just going to get scratched up anyway. At least it will all be green when I'm done.

Avoided an emergency room trip yesterday.

Doing some cleaning up around the garage yesterday and cutting up some metal with a cut off wheel on my grinder. Hit a sag and wheel blew apart an hit my safety goggles over my right eye and scratched the hell out of it. Now I haven't been one to ALWAYS wear saftey goggles. I do it most times but have never had something like this happen. Luckily I had them on when I learned this lesson. Go get the goggles even if its going to be a quick cut. Period.
 
No worries Pete. It's going around lately.

We made good progress on Dave B's rear bumper and it's nearing completion. A very simple design that should provide good protection.

I hammered out the dents in my rear quarters and put on a couple coats of plastic. Body work is a PITA!

this is more common that we might think. there was an eye dr on the 3fe group i used to belong to and he had horror stories all the time. one thing that he pointed out is that when someting comes spinning at you, the glasses will deflect it but it will most likely still cut your face. as a result, he always wears a face mask and goggles...

might be overboard but hey, it is your face. i wear both from now on...

Yeah I was thinking about picking up something like this. It did hit me in the nose too. No cuts luckily.

I'm looking for something like the Man-a-fre style. Tire carrier and cooler/fuel carrier. Bumper and tire rack first then cooler section later as funds permit. Not sure what Jose has in mind.
 
guys that looks really nice clean and simple. I love bent tubing. I want to do a similar bumper on my lv when the time comes

Kina did up a set of sliders for me this past fall, came out pretty good. Used the pieces you gave me (still owe you some Guiness) and added some tube on the outside which is angled up. 4 support tubes welded to the frame. should hold up pretty well!
