Gonna be wrenching all day, Monday June 21st - as long as a few last parts arrive, namely a dual battery kit from National Luna via Equipt Outfitters.

Shoot me an email at Steve at SoutheastOverland ditty com if ya wanna come. I have one taker already...will be plenty of  and I'll provide food too.

i may be interested i coming. Probably won't be much help but can lend as much of a hand as possible. Give me the details and if i can make it i'll let u know.

I'd definately like to help with a dual set up as I'd like to do the same sometime. Just can't hang with a Monday. Sorry bud. Wouldn't mind a good write up if you have the time and patience though.

Probably going to start working around 830 or so. I'll shoot you an email with specifics.

My time is tight too - Monday was just when I could get someone to come over who actually knows what they are doing.

I am too waiting on parts, that are not due in until the 22nd,,,what are you planning on doing? and to which cruiser?

National Luna dual battery kit on the Pig, with a deep cycle secondary battery, Blue Sea fuse box, gaggle of extra DC outlets, and an inverter if I can get one in time.

What components did you buy from Equipt? The controllers and monitors seem reasonable, but is the Power Pack (batt box) necessary for the install or can you install your own batt box & batt? Can you post your parts list?

WallyWorld Everstart marine deep cycle battery
can't find a link - but it is the biggest, honkin' marine, deep cycle battery they had

WallyWorld plastic battery box
can't find a link either - two piece, black plastic, the big honkin' marine battery fits well. Will strap down beside fridge.

Still to buy some wire and connectors from my FLAPS on Monday.

OK, that's the NL kit. The first link I pulled up had all the separate components and I didn't see the kit. What in the wide world of sports are you going to do with 11 DC outlets!

Also don't know if it was mentioned in the other thread but you should mount the inverter as close to the battery as possible for best efficiency - meaning the shortest possible cables between the inverter and the battery. Those inverters have some "overhead" that takes up some of the 1500 rated watt capacity and that overhead increases with longer cables.

I'm prob not going to install all of the DC outlets. A bank of 4 will go upfront, and a bank of 3 will go in the back. I might not use the 4 individual ones. I was short on time so I ordered extra.

The secondary battery is located just behind the fridge, which is right behind the driver's seat. The inverter will be mounted just behind the passenger's seat - less than 4' away. Does that sound close enough?

I heard from Proinv, IIRC, that it should be closer as in right on top of it if possible. From the inverter you could run a standard extension cord to get where you want to be. Mines under the pass seat too and I did not have this advice beforehand. I may wind up doing this same NL kit and will move my inverter to a better location when that happens. I like having a little 4 ft extension cord on the inverter regardless because it makes plugging in the laptop that much easier. I just let the extension cord sit under the front edge of the pass seat.

Send Proinv a PM and see if he can provide some more details on this point. I need to read up on this more too.

I could mount the inverter right on top of the battery too - probably within 1' of it. I'll move the inverter from behind the passenger seat to above the battery and mount it inverted under the platform.

Hook, Line, Sinker....DONE!

It doesn't really matter how close it is as long as you have sufficient size wire connecting it to the battery. If you were using 10 gauge wire (way small) you would get a lot of resistance/voltage drop between the two but w/ a good 2 gauge cable there will be no significant drop over a 5 foot run.

We also buy the isolators seperate (for ~$100) and build each setup custom per application. The Luna Kit is OK and "complete"ish but you can get better components for less if you shop a bit and know what you are looking for.

Thanks for the info on the length of wire to the inverter - I'll make sure it is beef enough. If I move the inverter back to where I originally wanted to put it, the length of run would probably be less than 4 feet, more around 3.

And therein lies the problem! :flipoff2:

I'm on a pretty tight time frame - I have to have EVERYTHING done, tested and working 100% on the Pig by Aug 06 - which gives me about 1.5 months. As soon as the electrical (dual battery) is finished, I have to have the windshield replaced and headliner installed which I am supposed to be able to have done in one day - or so I am told. I also need to track down a trickle drain on my primary battery (not having any luck so far - gonna pull fuses Sunday and see if that tells me anything) - and then start on a fairly significant list of small things. Oh, and I really hope to get in some long shakedown runs before I take this puppy on an almost 3,000 mile trip over the course of 1.5 weeks. I'm nuts. :grinpimp:

Michael - I did see (briefly) the dual battery kit you put on Adam's 60 - it looked very nice.

So how's it going today? Get zapped yet?

Started working at 745 AM - quit at 10 PM - all is done except rerouting one minor wire - will get to that later - now for some real work and then bed.

The work rocks - everything works so well - and thanks to Lenny for helping out!

Chloe and I had a great time thank you for the hospitality. I had not realized how late it had really gotten till I was driving, next time would probably go a little faster. I just wanted to be real sure not to let that magic smoke out :p
