well, i actually ahve thought in the future of getting a basic 11k model Toyota Yaris. They are cheap and get 40mpg and they have a warranty cause they are new

No way!!!! Didn't the metro practically come from the factory with a rod hanging out of it?

those new Honda Fit's look pretty neat - don't know how they would hold up against the Mom driving the Hummer on the cell phone while drinking her iced mocha latte while controlling the kids in the back

we have a fit. it is pretty neat. the crash stuff is a bit of a worry because honda builds stuff so light, but side impact beams made out of unobtanium and standard side impact curtain airbags help. It is virtually identical to the old mid 80s honda civic wagon in wheelbase, width, and height, but it weighs 1108 kg whereas the old civic wagon weighs 911 kg, so there is 200 kg / 440 lbs of something extra in there.

I had a 91' Metro in 1998. I sold it when I had to move across the country. I wish I wouldn't have. I had a lot of fun with that little car. Never had any problems with it. Drove back and forth across washington State through the pass twice a month for a year. I never felt safe in it but saved money on gas!

i have owned 4 metro's well 3 metro's and one sprint the original metro if you dont count the chevette (LOL) i love them for the mileage buit yah i dont want to get creamed by a truck while in it. with my last 2 door one (i paid $1000.00 for it) i averaged 52 mpg. it was a 90 3cyl. fuel injected 5spd. i should have kept it, i sold it with only about 75000 miles on it. the one i have now is a 92 3cyl fuel injected with automatic and air conditioning. i paid $300.00 for it and put a used japense engine in it for about another $300.00 and had to get throttle position sensor for another $159.00 so ive got $759.00 into it and get about 37 mpg without doing a tune up yet not bad i think for a little 4 door beater. and if i get creamed i dont need a coffen they can just put it and me six feet under (LOL)

Yes! ha ha..

Crazy gas mileage...From that little FI 3 cyl stick. Not saying anything about t-bone type accidents or being hit while slow or standstill, what we'd have on our side with a little car is the fact that they can outmaneuver any big SUV/truck out there..So regarding stuff like defensive driving and such, you can use the small car to escape an accident. Of my few little cars I've had, an '81 Corolla hatch I owned once was like an extension of me..I could handle crazy situations with it
