So I've got a line on a shell...or more specifically an FZJ complete less axles...I might buy it and rebuild the motor at my leisure to put in my LX450.

The motor in the LX is fine, but its got a few oil "seep" issues and I just figure why not pull it/and pop in a fresh motor instead of doing all the pan gasket, front cover, and maybe a PM headgasket with it in the chassis?

Alternative plan would be to rebuild it this motor I may buy, let it sit and see if anyone wants to buy it and ship me their core, or, I could even put the motor in if the person was local. Guess my question is what would ya'll be willing to pay for a fresh motor on a pallet, valve cover to oil pan ready to be installed? I think a short block from Toyota is like $3k-ish last I heard.

The motor when done would have the head rebuilt, stem seals, etc...and of course new rings, bearings, thrust washers, honed, cleaned, painted, blah blah blah...

I'd guess we'd all be more comfortable with this deal if the parties were local...so if anyone thinks they'll need a motor soon and lives near Chicago, lemmie know!

Well...going to look at this FZJ tonight...if I end up buying it I'll start a thread for the engine build with progress pics and whatnot. This will be my second 1FZ engine overhaul, looking forward to having a "crate" motor sitting in the garage ready for install!

Well, I came up empty. The truck was a 1994! I don't want to deal with the difference in the pre-1995 engines. Sooner or later I'll find a 1995-1997 1FZ-FE nearby that's blown up, cheap, and ready for me to buy. Glad it was not too far away.

Also, if anyone wants to buy a 1994 1FZ that purportedly is "good" I think this guy would sell it for around $200 or so. It's out and on a pallet though so you'd be gambling on how "good" is is. You can PM me and I'll get you the dude's contact info.
