Currently own a '96 FJ80. Basically stock -- 33" BFG, 100 series brakes, few small tweaks. 185K miles, well maintained and very clean. No F/R lockers.

Received an unsolicited on it last weekend at the boat ramp for more than I paid.

Considering a '98 - '00 100 series to replace it. 115 - 150K miles. Probably cost me less than $12K. Would get it clean and baselined, put new tires on it.

Will be a daily (6 mile commute) as I'm selling my M5 (makes you appreciate Cruiser reliability and functionality). Hunt and fish 25 days a year. Haul a dog. No boat for the next couple years.

Thoughts?

Picture of my current LC so you don't die of boredom.

I looked long and hard at several 80-series LC's before finally deciding on a '02 100-series. I love the styling and the solid axles on the 80, but I just couldn't stand the lack of power from the 6-banger. The V8 on the 100 is silky smooth and the amenities are nice. The fit/finish of the rig is also better than the 80 IMO. Only regret for me is not going with a '03 and later (5-speed auto). Best thing is to go drive a few 100's.

If you're not rock-crawlin, the 100 is superior in just about every way... Except maybe looks - and even then a 60 beats 'em both... I went from '95 to '00. :meh: dozens of threads on here already that hash every possible detail of comparison...

The 4.5l in the 80 is ridiculous.

I'm in the NW, arguably the most aggressive LC market in the country. An '03 is $20K, which I don't want to spend.

Stereo in the 100 any better?

Sound system in the '02 is decent... better sound quality than a OEM 80-series setup.

That's a very tough call. I love my 80, and I couldn't decide, so I went for both...
