Would 4Runner Quickstruts work in the front for a GX470?

I was interested in replacing the front struts in my GX470, but I like the ease of the new "quickstrut" type packages where everything is ready to go and you don't have to compress the spring to get to the strut:

Would this work in our GX470's? Would the ride height change?

The model number for this particular one is Monroe 171371L

Thanks for the help.

Since it's for a 4Runner it'll bolt up. You'll have to remove the sport / comfort bracket and harness on top of the OEM front coilovers. Not sure if it will change your height. If your springs are old they could be sightly sagging so it's possible but it wouldn't be much since these are for stock ride height anyway.

Thanks for the info, that's good to hear.

Is there anything special to know about removing that top bracket and harness, or does it simply unbolt?

My fear regarding the height is my understanding is some 4Runners over the years had different coil spring heights.

Would the rear air coils simply balance it out if theoretically it did raise the front up a little bit? Any alignment issues?

You can buy the complete front strut assembly (fully assembled) from Toyota for a v8 4runner for about $110 each. Just another option...

Not sure about the different height springs but removing the top bracket isn't hard just make sure you use some penetrating oil on the 2 allen head bolts. I ended up stripping the head on one because there's hardly any room to get your hand in the backside. I ended up using a pry bar to spin the brackets back side toward the front so I can get to the stripped allen head.

Anytime you change suspension parts such as shocks and springs it's a good idea to get an alignment.

Thanks for that info, would you happen to have a part number? I wasn't aware the OEMs were doing this.

I would prefer OEM quality, and the price sounds like it's only a few more dollars than aftermarket.

Before you jump into OEM replacements, look into Bilstein 5100 series adjustable struts and new Springs from either OEM or moog or even OME. The difference in ride quality with the 5100s are night and day over stock. There is a write-up on toyota 120 forums on how to install new Springs and struts without a spring compressor. Pretty easy job.
