my truck has been hard starting for a couple of months, starter cranking w/ full choke for @ 10 seconds. only when cold. replaced plugs and wires, fuel filter, cap and rotor are less than a year old. once it starts it runs fine. the last week it has been cranking long enough tto kill the battery. once jumped it fires up. today it won't start even after being jumped. there is fuel in the bowl. i pulled the fuse coming off the battery, red wire, 10 amp/250v, it was blown and i couldn't find a replacement from local checker. could this be the problem? if the alt was bad, would it still not start after a jump? help! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you

if youre giving it gas then you might try checking the to see if the choke is really working properly.

to elaborate maybe the butterfly is not closing enough but you are just now noticing because of the colder weather

60 or 62?

choke, fuel in bowl, must be 60, yes? could be charging system or slowly dying battery? how many pumps w/ choke out? I think that my owner's manual says 3-4, but I'm not sure...too many pumps could flood it, too few and she won't go...

if it was the charging system, wouldn't a jump get it started? i replaced the 10a/250v fuse with a 10a/32v (its all i could find) and it blew on contact. could a bad fusable link not allow the truck to start? do they slowly go bad? i'm in the process of checking the choke operation.

I would try cleaning all my contacts, batt terms, starter, alternator. bigger battery, or even try an iggy tune up

if the charging system isn't charging, the battery will eventually drain. dead battery with no charge won't run anything, especially without a working charging system. regardless, I would check your battery and replace if needed, then take your ride to one of the big chains like auto zone, etc. they'll test the charging system for free. if you can get it running with a jump, but then it won't start sounds like the battery is bad, and possibly the charging system as well. either way, I'd have it tested to rule it out. my .02

I want to suggest checking of your carburetor.
Although there's enough fuel in float chamber, if your allelerator pump plunger was worn, it can't supply enough fuel to throttle chamber when cold starting.
Remove air cleaner assy, remove 7 bolt and disassemble air-horn assy(top portion of carburetor) then check accelerator pump plunger was worn or not.

Have a nice land cruising !
