Ive been lurking for about 9 months but I'm stuck. I Have searched the interwebs and cant find a solution.

I have an 03 LX and its been having weird electrical gremlins but now...

It will start and runs for a second or two then shuts off. It doesn't sputter and die just shuts off like I have turned it off with the key.

If I immediately put it in neutral after it shuts off and try to start it again will start, run, and is drivable.

If I try to put it in neutral first without going through the above procedure it will start than shut off again.

Any ideas?

The first two things that come into mind are the neutral safety switch and MAF, but I doubt its the latter if it idles fine in N. The NSS is on the side of the tranny, try to adjust it and see if that helps. Get the FSM in the FAQ using the alternate site main link is dead.

You are the second person to suggest the NSS. Thanks, I'll report back.

If the adjustment doesn't help, it appears 84540-51010 is the part # for a replacement. New is $175, or get a used one for less.

I have an 03 LX as well & I had that similar problem. 1st I removed the air breather cover going to the throttle. I had my wife turn on the ignition and press the pedal to open the butterfly in the throttle. Do not start the truck. Use a 2" long bristle brush & throttle cleaner and removed all that carbon that was built up in & around it. Put back together & fired her up & haven't had a problem since

You can open the throttle on my 01 by rotating the plastic cam on the passenger side of the throttle body where the throttle cable attaches.

Personally I recommend every owner of the 100 series to make throttle cleaning part of routine maintenance. Keep it clean & you'll get better throttle response, gas & your engine doesn't work as hard
