After years of accepting my 2004 Taco's weird feeling clutch (I've been using clutch 40+ years, and was stalling motor when I first bought it and kept experiencing lunging after clutch release at times), an annoying squeak began that was dealt with using spray lubricant. Squeak kept coming back. Did some research and found out it was the funky clutch pedal torsion spring Toyota uses on the 6 cyl motors models. The 4 cyl models had the standard linear spring. Pulled the torsion spring out and put in a linear spring like all other vehicles that I've ever driven. Gone is the squeak and the funky feeling clutch. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Here are a coupla sites that cover the problem in more detail.

Excellent--my 4Runner suffers from this (well, really, I'm the one who suffers!).

Great find.

You're all welcome. Hope y'all are enjoying the squeak free clutch as it should have been: with a linear spring.
