Back in late 2002, I bought my 60 out of a South-Lousiana salvage yard for $800 after it was fresh-watwer flooded to just beneath the dash when Hurricane Isadore hit SE Louisiana. Besides having water in mechanicals and mud everywhere else, it was complete and mostly rust free. After trailering it home and beginning the resurrecting process, I began to notice some nice details:
Besides a completely worn out suspension, she had new Michelins on the stock rims, the oil had been changed less than 200 miles before being flooded, and the remnants of a Causeway pass were on the windshield. Once i started working under the hood, I noticed a new radiator with a TEQ stamp, a new manifold gasket, new belts, and an unusually clean engine block (the serial number was clearly visible with no paint in the numbers). Under the truck I also found the oil pan to be clean and gloss back in contrast to the greasy, grimy undercarriage. Once she was started, the oil pressure was pegged at the high mark and would drop only slightly once warmed up. 5 years and 2k miles later, the oil pressure is now holding strong at the 3/4 mark and she runs pretty well. Everything under the hood is clearly circa 1985 and a desmog and probably a carb rebuild is in the cards.
My question is: is there anyway to determine if this motor was a rebuild or a replacement? I took some pics of the engine for a good visual, so I'd appreciate inputs from the community.
Thanks!
