Hey,
Drove from Reno NV to Death Valley CA (200 some miles), 2 passengers, LOADED TO THE GILLS with camping gear, spare parts, food, malt beverage and other.. On the roof, 3, 5 gal gas cans, 1, 5 gal H2O can, high lift and 33 in spare with steel rim. and I managed 15-16 MPG (I thought that was pretty good). OH, and I just washed it and buffed out the oxidation!:D
I had my tires at 50 psi, Just tuned with new fluids all around, distributor, plugs, fuel filter, alt, air filter and O2 sensors.
Im not sure what good doing the valve adjustment would do unless I heard alot of valve chatter.
SOOOOO, Im thinking that shaving weight wouldnt make too much of a diff in MPG, thats about what I get when I drive her empty though too...I think it would help on the trails though.
These bitches are HEAVY mo fo's

Mileage - accelleration vs. cruising (no pun intended)

The place where weight gains and
losses really affect mileage is in
stop-and-go or city driving, and/or
running up a grade. Other than a
slight change in rolling resistance,
there should be no major difference
made by changes in weight, more or
less, as long as you're on level ground.
