Some of you will remember that my dog Hoss had relations with a Wolf a few months ago!

Here is the article from the AZ Republic!

This was in the Arizona Republic

Are they dogs or wolf-dogs? Wildlife officials want to know, and they've taken six pups from a den in eastern Arizona to determine their parentage. If the 6-week-old animals are determined to be anything other than purebred Mexican wolves, they likely will be euthanized, said John Morgart, coordinator of the Mexican wolf recovery program for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. "We're not in the business of producing hybrids," he said. "

He shoots - he scores!

I do not think they should kill the pups!

Eric?

I want one!

Isn't dog gestation times longer than 'a few months'?

Edit: I googled it, it's 9 weeks. So I guess you're in the ball park!

Yep, I checked it -

I also checked Snopes so everyone would be happy!

Then I made sure it was not a repost -

I e-mailed the guy and asked for a pup...

Can't hurt! Even if they are not my dogs pups...

I am thinking that if they are Lab/Wolf pups, they would not have to run tests to figure it out.

I want to volunteer to do the shooting.

Friggen idiots. They will waste taxpayers dollars to do a DNA test, kill the pups, and document it in triplicate in a report to Washington.

Just give the dang pups away or let nature run it's course. If the wolves have cross bred, the DNA will get watered down and return to almost 100% after a half dozen or so generations of wolf breeding. Then they will ready for me to shoot them. I wish that they would institute the wolf bounty again. I'd change jobs and go full time wolf harvesting.

Do you want to set up a partnership? I know where some are, and even where some hybrids are that we can knock off and claim they are wolves.

e-mail from friends in Alpine -

Pups killed!

We saw the information yesterday on the wolf update at the library.
The pups have already been euthanized, but the time was wrong for
Hoss. They were already four weeks old in early May. They were born
on the road to the Blue, farther down from here. We immediately
thought of Hoss and did the math, not possible!! So, there may be
more out there that we don't know about, yet.

There's a theory about wolf-dog mixes that is somewhat interesting.

Early on after European settlement in North America, people noted that the NA wolves were not as aggressive toward humans as their European counterparts. This was noticed almost immediately, and has been commented on many times over 400 years.

Recent genetic studies suggest that European wolves have high domestic content (I don't know how good the information actually is, it is just what I've read). It is the domestic content that is proposed to make the European wild wolf dogs less shy around humans, and therefore more likely to have adverse encounters. Documented non-rabid wild North American wolve-human attacks are and have been so rare as to be nearly nonexistant.

Interesting -

they still could just give them to a shelter - for those of us that want a hybrid...

I knew they guy who put the "nearly" in "nearly nonexistent"

For some reason, Timber Wolves in NW Ontario never learned to read and therefore haven't been indoctrinated by the popular media to understand that wolves don't attack people. Wolves elsewhere seem to be better educated.

Interesting observations about the Euro vs. NA wolf interaction with humans.

So what you are saying is that all non-pure wolf hybrids should be eliminated?

Hybrid Harvest??? I think you are on to something.

You could get the government to sponsor it, and sell the pelts after skinning the carcass in the field. You could make the pelts into ladies purses.....

Hybrid Harvest Handbags.

Sell 'em on e-bay, I bet there's a good market for 'em!
