Stopped by Oreilly's and I picked up a WIX oil filter for my wife's 08 4-runner and it is about 1" shorter than the oem filter... Any potential problems with this?

TIA,
ML

i would wait for a second opinion but i've been told it doesn't really matter. it has more to do with the microns? of filtration within the filter.

Do you have the part number by chance of the Wix filter?

Pretty common. Issue with part store filters, common uupgrade to use a 4.0 filter on a 3.4 block to get .5 extra oil capacity. Doesnt work with wix filters because they are the same part number for both engines.

I use both the Wix and Toyota brands on my Tacoma (depending on whatever I grab). I've never noticed a difference. I think Wix might be made by Bosch?

I'm at 150k on the 3.4l. I use the filters with Mobil 1 synthetic and "Restore" oil additive in 6 cylinder motor size. Adding those two together is almost the exact amount of recommended oil for the 3.4l so it makes for an easy oil change. I think I used a Napa? filter once and it was nice because it had a gripper shell which was easier to yank off the motor during the oil change.
