Blame @LS1FJ40 for one too many knees slamming into it. I'm starting with the 60s because I'm selfish and I want one for my 60 first before I adjust and make one for the 80s as well :flipoff2:

This is going to be a steel replacement for the plastic steering column clamshell. I am planning on security and accessory mounting options and I'm opening this up to scrutiny because I need input for what you folks would like to see as far as your needs.

The first pics are what the current design looks like. The last pics are what the old clamshell and new design look like in the same space. Nothing is set in stone.

Although this is the 60 setup, the 80 version will change accordingly.

That's a good idea man! Not sure if it would work, but possibly a HAM/CB mount on the bottom with a handle mount on the side :hmm:

This attaches to the tailgate?

Duh...
That's what I get for just reading the pictures. Looks to be quite a hit. Mine's OK for now, but I can see where they just start falling apart..

Good spot for a ScanGuageII Mount on top?

ScanGuageII is probably getting dated though, not sure if there is some hotter item out there.

Although I’ve read about the OBDII Bluetooth scanner that has a downloadable smartphone app, sounded pretty slick.

Only thing I don't like about the BT ones is the latency and they don't connect 100% of the time. But you are right, the ScanGauge is getting long in the tooth.

So what is the next weakest link that @LS1FJ40 will break when he wacks his knee on this clamshell...;)

Knee cap!

Listen, I’ve only broken 13 clamshells over the years. After springing for the last one I begged Joey to make this.

My vote is for black powder coat. Like the FEM-1.

There are endless possibilities to mount stuff to this since it will be steel.

Now hurry the fawk up and get the 80 one done! I’ve been rolling around without a clamshell for two years!!

And I need an 80 version without cruise control for my 92! The only 80 in NA without cruise from the factory!!

I know in time I will need one. I bought one from @beno a few months back. Not because I have legs like a spider (@LS1FJ40 ) but because I over tighten some screws and broke the MF. But for now I am sweet but just don't do one of those " no longer available" tricks....

Mine is held together by a bungee cord right now, totally interested in this.
