First time poster here. Used the form a ton to redo an 80 series and just pick up a 2001 100 series. Thanks in advance for the help and I don’t believe this has been covered but any help is greatly appreciated.

So I started off with a Christmas tree of ABS light which I have read and learned a lot about through others posts. I went ahead and ordered a brake switch in anticipation of that being the problem but the real issue came after. I unplugged the old switch and saw exposed wires in the sheathing. Pulled it back to the main harness and all 4 wires had the coating melted off. No fuses blown. I found this very weird. In the process of soldering in new wires now.

I took a break from that because my hands were getting tired and started looking at the tail lights as other posts have mentioned a bad ground could cause the lights on the dash and found what I believe if the underlying problem. An aftermarket back up camera was installed at some point and was spliced into the driver tail light. After following the camera wires I noticed a bad ground. With it I found the bottom tailgate harness was also melted together and when I moved it random stuff would happen in the car.

I am going to dig deeper into the harness tonight to make sure nothing else is fried but in the mean time does anyone know the part number or where I could find a new harness for the tailgate or is it something I’m going to need to build from scratch? I will post pictures this evening. Thanks again for any and all help.

I’m parting out a cruiser. I could pull that harness. And check to see if it’s the same on my 99

That would be great. Purple clips in the back is what I have. I made up a harness tonight so I’m going to test that tomorrow. Just dm me with the info.

Bringing back an old tread. For those wondering I did fix the above Landcruiser a reluctantly sold it about a year later. Never had another issue. That brings me to my next issue. I looking for another LC 100 and found a 2006 with rodent damage in my area. It has AHC which I might delete but there are plenty of topics on that. My question is does the 2006 LX main bay harness fit and would it be an option to swap in? Part numbers don't give me a good reference and all of my searches have come up clean. The LX harness I'm looking at has a 82111-60876 part number supposedly (ebay seller). Does anyone know if this will fit a 06 LC. I do know the drive trains are the same but the part numbers are throwing me off. Thanks for the help!

No, the harnesses are not the same. The Lexus has options the Land Cruiser doesn't. The wire colors will not be the same. You'll have a lot of work to make it work and a lot more to fix any problems in the future. It can be done, but it isn't the best option.

Thank you! Saved me a lot of headache. I might just try to repair the wire as others have done on the form. Appreciate the reply

FWIW, soldering automotive wiring is not the best idea. That's why Toyota uses crimped connections.

Thats what I've gathered, I figured ferrules and sealed heat shrink will be the best. On some of them they are right at the connectors and I'm not sure if I can unpin them and add to it. most if the damage is to two connectors at the brake booster. Map sensor wires are in half as well but still starts and runs ok. That is the only engine code I was getting but all kinds of other lights are on I'm assuming associated with the abs

The EWD and Wiring Harness Repair Manuals (WHRM) will help you repair any damage. The WHRM has instructions for repairing every connection in the harness. It's in the 100 series forum for free download.

I would also suggest you post a request in the NC clubhouse for a harness. Someone in NC probably has one that you could use.

Also, if you've found a 100 series with AHC, it's not a Land Cruiser, it's a Lexus LX470. The Land Cruiser was imported into the US market with a fixed suspension, like the 80 series.
